Passionflower (Maypop) vine seed germination - how?

Fishers, IN

I've read about using gibberellic acid or 5% ethanol cider to start these seeds, but has anyone ever sown them directly outside? I tried starting them inside last year in regular potting soil and they didn't germinate. Any suggestions besides using these chemicals which I can't easily find?

Hi Laura,

maybe soak in some Orange Juice? It's worked for others...

There are several suggestions on this thread (or check out the Passionflower Passiflora Forum where several have asked your question, too) t..

I forgot to soak mine and I am still waiting for a sprout. It may be long time! (-:

I had a somewhat strange experience with these seeds.
At first i sowed six seeds in a small pot outdoors in May (avg. temp. 67 F).
After two weeks only one seed germinated. The rest didn't.
Next May i sowed the rest four seeds and they all germinated after two weeks! Without any special preparation.
I think that maybe i had sowed the first seeds too deep, or the soil blocked their way up to the surface.
From my experience with tropical Passiflora Edulis, i think that an average temperature of at least 68 F is needed and the pot must be placed in a place with at least few hours of sunshine.
