That wind storm here in the Bay Area yesterday took my Purple Hopseed tree. The first 24" boxed tree I have ever planted, almost a year ago. Its my fault as I did not have it staked properly (its in an area that normally does not get much wind).
Oh well....
Waaahhhh.....
Double bummer...don't you HATE it when things like that happen?
I lost a big tree rose last year for the same reason.
Purple hopseed grows REALLY fast. You could start over with a gallon or 5 gallon plant and fill that spot in no time.
The only problem is that we cant get them in standard form in anything less than a 15 gallon. I would have never bought a boxed one except that I get it at wholesale price. I am wondering if it will sprout from the roots? If it does then I could train it back into a single trunk.
Sorry Plantmum. What a sad thing to lose a loved plant like that. This wind sure has been strong.
And I felt bad yesterday when an Agastache I was planting got snapped off by a gust of wind! Plantmum, I feel for you. Hope it comes back.
So sorry--that is really a shame! I hope it grows back for you!
Thanks everyone. I like that tree becauue it stays fairly small and I was using it as a privacy block...so...I lost a year of growing some privacy!
