Hi everyone! I have to confess. I purchased some incredible lily bulbs from Buggy Crazy last fall and did not plant them!!! Yikes! I kept them in my cool basement and was expecting the worst but when I took them out yesterday, they were healthy and not rotted at all. The only thing is some of them had sprouted; a few an inch and a few four inch stalks! What do you recommend I do when planting them today? I will be so depressed if I screwed them up! Thanks for any help!
Confession Time!
Naughty, naughty! ;)
Be very careful with the sprouts, they break easily and if that happens there will be no bloom this year. If the nose is short, go ahead and plant at the proper depth. With that 4 inch sprout, I'd plant it with the nose about 1-2" above ground.
Moby - Thanks so much for answering. I will try what you suggested and hope for the best. Has that ever happened to you and have you had luck with them blooming anyway? I know lilies can be quite forgiving, but I might be stretching my luck this time!
I just bought some pink tiger lilies that had sprouted a good 3-4 inches. I just back filled VERY carefully and left about an inch or two above ground. They seem to be growing fine!

I did the same thing with lilies from The Lily Garden. It seems to be a habit:LOL: It doesn't seem like a lot of planting or planning while I'm clicking aways and hitting send payment now at PayPal =D Then all the stuff starts arriving!
Late last summer I found 3 bags of asiatics in my fridge and planted them in a container out back...they flowered late and some had buds that turned brown and shrivelled up but this year they're already up about 1 1/2 ft and huge.
I did the same thing with some TB iris last fall. I bought them late then procrastinated. It got cold then there was a freak weather week of 80 degree temps in December. I dug up all of my old iris bed (10 yrs old) and replanted with all new iris. I wasn't expecting a single bloom and was surprised and happy to see 3 stalks.
Great to hear that I'm not the only procrastinator! I was so thrilled to receive my order from BuggyCrazy and then life happens and I didn't get to plant them. Always they were in the back of my mind and also the $$$$ I had spent on them and probably wasted......Well, thanks to BuggyCrazy's incredible packaging and healthy bulbs, there was no rot and I had just stored them in my cellar for the winter! I am keeping my fingers crossed and thanks to all of you for your tips. I will plant them that way!! Happy gardening. It is sunny and a beautiful 55 degrees in Maine. Great digging weather!
Happy Digging musicmonkey.
They will surprise you, they're tought little (OK, Buggy's aren't little:lol:) suckers!
Can't wait to see photos;)
Yeah, those look like big fat asparagus:LOL:
I think I'm going to have to actually place an order with Buggy Crazy this year or next. I seem to only think about it after she is sold out of everything.
Buggy's site usually becomes active around August 1st. :)
Thank you for that tip:) I just put her site on my favorites thing for quick access.
Always willing to enable a fellow lily lover. :)

Always leave Buggy on the "quick access" list . A one hit key for immediate gratification may become necessary in the future.
Kinda like "Break glass in case of emergency" type of thing, huh? =D
I love plants but until this year--my second year being involved in co-op groups--I had no idea how much I "looooovvvvveeeddd" plants:LOL: If you had asked me a few years ago what I would spend on bulbs and plants it would have been under $100 a year.
I'm getting concerned that I actually have enough allegedly disposable income to keep buying stuff, but I've not been evicted, the lights and phone are one, pets are fed and cable is still on so I guess I'm OK...for now=)
Lights and phones are over rated! Pets probably should be fed, I understand they will seek retaliation if not fed or pampered on a regular basis, but other family members could miss a few meals and it wouldn't hurt them, now would it. :) One must have their priorities. :) LOL
*note, my husband does not read this. :) LOL
(eyes shift right) (eyes shift left) pssst...I won't tell him....

I know you are Ticker LOL we all need help sometimes so we don't feel so bad when we are over budget good job :0)
Gloria
Budget? I don't need no stinking budget! :) LOL Ok, I really do need a budget, but we must not admit that to my husband! If he ever reads this stuff I'm toast. :) LOL
she sold out ? except for a few.
thanks for the link
tazzy...Buggy only ships in fall for lilies. The "sold out" means it is not available right now, but having it there reminds us of all of the good stuff she's got.
Tazzy, Buggy's web-site usually is up-dated by the first of August. :)
Or there abouts...
Don't miss it cuz its wonderful LOL

I've only seen the photos of some of the bulbs but I think she cross breeds them with Great Danes or bulbs from the Jurassic era:LOL: Crazy Big!
I do have one type of bulb that did that here for me...I promised them to someone but I have to do some serious digging to get them out. I planted 2 peruvian daffodil bulbs a few years ago and forgot about them. They suddenly made an appearance 2 summers ago. They are not my favorites so I decided to dig them up. Now there are about 5 and one that I dug down to is about 12-18 inches underground and the size of a grapefruit. I'm going to have to loosen a bunch of soil to get it out. The others are smaller but not by much.
LOL I think you're right on with the Great Danes!
yes
i bought a lot from her before we moved
a friend of mind want to buy some i was getting the link for her .
i have very little room at our trailer .
