Its been snowing like crazy here in MLT since I got home at 5pm. The roads are slushy but the deck trees and grass is covered. I would guess that there is about an inch of snow on the ground now. My two outside thermometers is showing 32 and 35F for the east and west sides of my house respectively.
The US Weather Service is saying that the snow will be around until 5 am at this point. Wonder if its going to be a skating rink in the morning?
Snowing Like Crazy
Wow!
Be careful out there. We may get snow here in the Tri Cities too. This is NOT supposed to be happening this time of year!!
Sherry
We had a 10 snow storm while the sun was shining this afternoon. I was amazed at what I saw on the news about your area. This better be the end of it. Full Moon Time.

When I left Lynnwood at 6pm I had 2" on my car. driving in to Edmonds nothing near the water front. got home at 8:30pm have 1" on the ground and I live in Pousbo, Heard its going to be about the same in Am.
I just went out and got my mail. Its about 1/2 block away up the street. Went in my Birks. Stupid! There was about 4" of snow on the sidewalk, with about 2" snow, and 2" slop below that. Wet socks, wet Birks!
It is still falling, small flakes, but falling moderately hard. Going to make my class tomorrow interesting. We are supposed to be touring restoration sites in Snohomish County for my Native Plant Class. Gonna be tough to find plants with this much snow around.
Good grief.
This has to be the latest storm I have ever been in. Once in White Pass, I got about a foot while sleeping in a tent. Quite interesting to be overnight backpacking and find myself snowed in, in the morning.

On the news this morning as I was leaving, Something about this is not the first time we had snow this late, and something about beating the record, but they didnt give the year.
1972.
In 1985: the day i moved back from Hawaii, a light snowstorm greeted me. that was different - but gone the next day.
Moved here in Late 1985
I know that I'm a little south of all of you but I did hear on the news on Sun morning that this was a new record for us for the latest snow of the year, we broke the old record by quite a bit. We also set record a record low temp, but only by 2 degrees. I miss spring!....or did we ever get it yet. hmmmmm...
I think Spring visited for one day. Maybe two.
I moved here in 1941 and was in our great blizzard. It used to snow a lot back then. Deeper I mean.
There was a blizzard in January of 1950 - I remember it well . . . only because my father came to school (I was in kindergarten) and carried me home!
As a kid growing up in Seattle, we had good snows every year - everyone owned a sled, we built snowmen and forts, etc. Undoubtedly my memory is a bit skewed, but honestly we had some big hills we all went to and sled down - it was fabulous! And I remember warming up by the heat register while my clothes dried - so I could put them on and go back out again.
Your pup brought a big smile to my face!
He's an old fella, all grey around the muzzle. He spent most of his life on the road in Colorado but finally decided to hang up the gypsy life and call us "home".
Nice place to retire - with you!
I think a big part of his decision was getting the dreaded "neutering" operation. I think he is hiding out in Oregon from multiple puppy-support orders that were filed in Colorado. Keep it quiet, now!
:-)
LOL!
Murmur, I know I was in Junior High during that blizzard. We had amazing drifts and everythink. I also remember for a few years around that time we ice skated on the local ponds. And one year my dad made us a big igloo. That was fun and I don't remember being cold at all.^_^
I remember the 72 storm. Way more snow that time! My brothers and I decided to sled off the gargae roof, since the snow drift was about two feet short of the roof line . Gut on the roof ok and slid down the roof fine. Would have made it except for the gutter caught the sled and flipped me thru the airhead first into the snow. Got in trouble for ripping the gutter off. That summer we moved to the farm in Snohomish, where me and my kids live now.
That made me laugh. Good story.
Those storms were in April? that's amazing. Ahhh life as a kid!
I remember a snow storm with lots of snow drifts and it seems like the snow lasted for a long time, and 1972 would be about right for my memories of that. I didn't realize it was in April, either, though.
Lol, Gordon, great story!
The one I'm remember most (when I was in kindergarten) was in January that year.
Those are both great stories. Sort of glad I wasn't here for them. That makes more sense that it was in January. I actually like the snow in January, that's where it belongs! Gordon.... you're lucky you made it after that head dive! But, i'm sure that the sliding down the roof was awesome!
Do you all remeber the freeze out of 89? A bigger snowstorm just before Christmas that shut down 520 and I90 bridges, iced Seattle solid for a week? Well, I flew out of SeaTac to stay with my sister in DC where Mom was going to be too for Christmas, and when I returned to Seattle, it was still frozen solid.
I had $1000 of mush on a glassed in back porch from all the succulents that got frozen solid. Something like 100 to 150 plants died. When I left I was concerned about them, but never expected below freezing for 10 days straight. It was a very sad day in my life.
Not that this compares with skiing off the roof in Snohomish. But those were also the years when the developers tried to develop a ski area at Mount Pilchuck?
From what I understand, that period, the heavy snow and cold of the early to mid 70's was the end of the "Little Ice Age" a period that extended from the late 1800's to the mid 1900's. It was heaviest around 1910 or so. And yes, the 70's were the extreme outside end.
I remember that! North of us, i.e. washington, had been hit a little harder since there was more moisture in the air. But, wow was that entertaining. Our drive way was about 1/3 or a mile long, paved, and had a 40% grade to it. I think that it was almost 2 weeks that we parked above the driveway and probably for about a week we were able to actually sled down the driveway on the ice! (fun, but sometimes painful) that's how we got the groceries down. We only lost a few plants, but we had several dead car batteries! I wish I had p ictures of that!
Yes, I remember that, it was actually 1990-1991. I only remember the year because we were in the middle of moving during that time from NE Seattle out of a house on a steep grade (But not 40%) and up to Lynnwood. The ice ruts were lots of fun....
uhhhhh... moving then, that most have been bad!
Sorry for the confusion. The snow and blizzards and cold were in January and Februay. When the blizzard hit we were out of school almost the whole month of Feb. that year. Great memories everyone.
90-91. I think that was when I spent the night with a gal (such a whiner!!) I'd met at the bus stop in the hotel room of a couple of out-of-towners we'd met at a restaurant downtown. I slept on the floor, but didn't sleep much as the couple spent the night arguing in an alcohol-intensified anger over the fact that he'd invited us to sleep on their floor.
I'll never forget how miserable I was the next morning, in ruffled work clothes and snow-frizzed hair. I caught a bus home to Bellevue, past all the car-carcasses and then walked through many more home to my little apartment in Kirkland. Not my finest hour. I swore I'd find a job where I didn't have to rely on someone else for transportation ever again after that.
I well remember that was the worst, Kitsap co. was hit the hardest, we where without power for 9 days, and it was so cold my water pump on the well exploded from the frozen water in it. then we where with out water for 15 days and a cost of $500.00 to get a new pump. the only heat we had was the stove we had propane then, closed of half of the house and brought the mattress into the living room. that was the worst winter I have ever seen.
90-91, my mom was visiting from California and it got down to 6 degrees. I kept telling her, "it isn't usually like this!". I don't know if she believed me. It was her last trip to Oregon ever!
Ah, yes. I lived on Magnolia Hill - about 3/4 of the way up the steep hill that is mostly apartments. Any of you familiar with it will understand. The first time I was unable to get my car all the way to my apartment and left it partway down on a side street. The next time I managed, don't ask me how, to get it to my place. Those were in my much younger days - 17 years later I would no more try that than fly.
