What are your favorite varieties of veggies for the SF Bay area? Contending w/ fog banks, and cooler temps are a consideration for picking seeds.
Has anyone had better luck w/ certain tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, etc in this area?
Thank you for your hlep.

SF Bay area veggie favorites??
It depends on where you are in the Bay Area--which part of the Bay Area are you wondering about? If you live in the East Bay near where I am, then you don't have to be very picky about varieties, but if you're closer to the bay or the ocean then you do.
South Sanfrancisco City; about 10 min from the airport, up on a hill. fog comes in so I have to garden in pots on my balcony which is the sunniest spot. Thanks for your help.
Is there a reference as to which varieties grow best in S.SF?

Here's a couple of online resources that might help:

In addition, I suggest you get a copy of Golden Gate Gardening by Pam Pierce. It covers a lot of what you need.
I live in Alameda, an island on the bay, so I've got cool, often overcast summers to contend with. Plus, our house is on a corner and surrounded by 100 year old street trees, and the neighbor behind us has 3 humongous acacia trees. So, it's shade, clouds, and cool temps for us! Under these conditions, I've gotten great production from Stupice and Black Krim tomatoes. Thai and Rocoto peppers also do fantastically well and usually live over for multiple seasons. Arugula and winter cress do great and self-sow for next year. If you can give it wet feet, watercress does well too. Also, Nasturtiums just love this climate and are great in salads.
I'm in Berkeley where is cool and windy much of the time. I've had the most success with Alpine strawberries, lettuce, mixed greens, Arugula, chard, and kale. The alpine strawberries, growing in Earth Boxes, are delicious from the end of may through mid-October. Herbs are fine, of course, in containers on my deck. Bush beans and the shorter varieties of climbers work well in Earth Boxes but don't work in the ground because they develop mildew during the foggy cool days.
I've been entirely unsuccessful with all varieties of tomatoes, working my tail off trying everything under the sun to no avail.
Good luck!
