Alstroemeria (Princess Lily) is coming up variegated?!?

I've got two Alstroemerias that I've had for about 3 years now. For some reason though, they are both coming up with variegated leaves this year. Would anyone happen to know why this would happen? Soil deficiency maybe? Or extreme cold winter weather -- it got as low as 5 degrees a few nights.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

I have no idea, as we mostly deal with Lilium bulbs here in this forum. If you don't get an answer, maybe you could try the Perennial forum...?
