Has any one tried any anti wilting sprays/products?

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Has anyone tried any of the anti wilting sprays? I'm really interested in people's feedback on whether it works or is just a waste of money.

Aransas Pass, TX

I have. I use it as a form of pest control also. They also work well for anti wilting. Some even incorporate a UV inhibitor. It keeps the foliage pretty in my windy part of the US. Texas coast. Now in MD I am not sure why you would need one. Pretty mild weather. Try them if you need it. They do work.

CaptMicha: What are you hoping it would do for you?

I just wanted them for cuttings. And for overwintering plants in the house because we have very low humidity.

Which one do you use?

I don't use one. Are they supposed to help cuttings root?

I've used Moisturin on my outdoor plants, and it really does help with wilting and cuts down on how often they need to be watered. I didn't have enough in the first quart I bought to do all of my plants, and it is quite obvious which ones had a good coating and which ones didn't. I ordered a gallon of the concentrate yesterday. My area in Georgia has been in extreme drought for over a year and I lost a lot of plants last year, even when we were allowed to do limited watering. The drought continues, and we aren't allowed to water outdoors at all now unless the water is recycled grey water or from a rain barrel. I have a rain barrel, but if it doesn't rain........ So I am hoping the Moisturin is going to make a big difference in the amount of water my plants will require this year. I am also hoping it will help a lot with propogation. The company also says the coating will protect plants from frost, diseases, and insects. The company says research studies have proved their product works better than any of the others. I can't confirm or dispute that, but I've been pleased with the early results so far.

When I want to root leaves of any kind, I always soak in 5 drops of SuperThrive in a gallon of water for about 15 minutes.............then, of course, they go under a dome of some kind to keep high humidity until they root.

If it is a cutting, I do the same thing but I do use rooting powder also............use a zip lock bag for rooting to keep high humidity.

jpotts, what are you using on your outside plants for our gosh awful 50mph winds??????? I would be real curious to know.

scootapook! You just answered my question for me. Thanks and I will look for the product.

Gail, how are you.

I have not used anything this year but I do have a gallon of AS 2000. Moisturin claims to have all the additives. I am about ready to spray. I like to wait until I have finished pruninig them, to seal the wounds. Humidity plays havoc on open wounds.

You ought to see how ugly my brugs are! It is from the wind and the leaves have brown places on them. Do you know where to get the Moisturin around here by chance?

One of these days this summer, I am going to get over to Aransas Pass (I go pretty often...about once a month anway to check out Lowe's and Johnson's Nursery) and see your brugs!

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm lucky to have a well. We get to use all the water we want! The downside is low water pressure.

Moisturin is really expensive! Have you tried Vita Grow Anti Wilt? Is it any better than that? http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=VAW300

Thanks for the warning, Mitch! I will try something else and thanks for the link.

Me? I'm Micha.

I have never been able to find Moisturin locally. I have only found it available online from the manufacturer, GSI, in Oregon, and a few other distributors listed on the company's website. One company on the list of distributors, OVS, had the concentrate for $43.50 a gallon for the concentrate as opposed to $66 something on the GSI site. However, if you are a member of the National Home Gardeners Club, they have a special right now on GSI for 20% off on the quart of the ready mixed Moisturin 5. I bought a quart of the Moisturin 5 to try it, but it was not nearly enough to do all of my plants so I ordered a gallon of the concentrate. Normally I would not spend this much on chemicals, but if it cuts down on on the amount of water my plants need as well as the labor of hand watering them with rain water if I have it, and prevents plants from dying from dehydration, I think it will be a good investment during this terrible drought we are having in Georgia.

Thanks and I am sorry I called you Mitch. I thought I ws talking to someone I knew in Texas!

Gail I use AS in the gallon size

Anti-Stress 2000 1 Gallon Concentrate

http://www.polymerag.com/orders.htm

It runs $ 50.00 a gallon

I do not believe I could make it a summer without it.

My plants are beat up from the wind and no rain. I was going to spray this weekend. I live on sand and my well has a high PH and a high sodium content so I need rain really bad to leach the salt out of the sand. They do carry AS at Turners but it is 24.95 a quart.

Thank yu so much, jpotts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will order some this weekend................

Aransas Pass, TX

I use a http://www.sprayer-outlet.com/gprohand.htm

google it , it can be found cheaper.

It saved my brugs last year without a decent miteacide. I have the newest miteacides but they are crying for AS. Hey we got some rain. Yeahhhhhhhhhh. I figured the dilution ratios and am going to spray AS and a generic Avid together. It makes a super sticker. I have used AS on every plant in every conditions never any damage and always helps. Trees, flowers, brugs, plumeria, daylillies etc. Just do not hit cactus. It will not hurt cactus much but will not help.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks and I have the real AVid but cannot afford to use it on anything but my african violets..........so glad to know that there is a generic out there.
