Ahhhhhh! YOU MEAN THEY'RE NOT GREEN ONIONS?!

Told you I was dangerous.. Snuck outside for an hour to get some weeding done before they take over. I just couldn't understand why I had all these wild green onions growin in my beds. After ripping out the fifth or sixth handful it hit me. These are baby lily seedlings!!!!!. They were all around my big lillies, there were lily seeds all over the ground (I let all my flowers seed for the birds), lots of baby lily leaves and sprouts and all these tiny green onions. Duhh. I ran in the house clicked on DG and you could hear me scream all the way down the street. Now I have something else to pot up along with all the lillies I have to plant from scales I potted up last summer when I pulled up some when I was weeding. Gotta get the mulch down just to protect my garden.

Oh heck, you're not really a gardener unless you kill a few plants in the process of learning to garden. :) Been there, done that, still do it on occasion. :) LOL

May I ask a really stupid question. Did the baby lilies have a smell? I have pulled several of these from my beds, but I am in a new home and don't know what all is there. Someone loved their garden a long time ago. I thought these were a given weed, so I pulled several up and they smelled. Please, Please tell me lily babies don't smell like green onion.

I have never heard of ANY lily smelling like onion. However, besides chives, onions, garlic and garlic chives, some ornamental flowering onions will smell like onions too (but not many).
