I was given some cuttings of the orange/red flowering quince that grows all over the place here on the Eastern Shore (7b). Should I try to root them in water, starter soil, or just stick them in the ground as I would a forsythia? It has taken me three years to get these cuttings and I don't want to do the wrong thing and loose them thru ignorance. Any help or even good guesses would be appreciated. Thanks, Pam
Flowering Quince
Mine keeps rooting wherever a branch touches ground. That type seems to do best being potted up to grow roots. It seems like just sticking them in the ground, but I like the control of pots where it is easier to control watering, light/shade, or winds etc.
This is zone 4 and weather can be uncertain. (I guess it's more uncertain all over anymore.)
