where to order plug trays

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I just did a co op for begonia plugs. I want some of those trays and I guess it has the moss or whatever with them. Does anyone know where to find them. They can hold so many in so little space!! I'd google it, but have no idea what to call them.!!!

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

they call them plug trays here is one place http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/prodinfo.asp?number=CN%2DPLG

the price isn't bad, there are 100 sheets per case

LorraineR, I've got some that would probably be perfect for your plugs they are about 2 1/4" long and 2" across but I'm not sure how to mail them, I would probably have to cut them in half to mail, did you get any?

No, I didn't . I could never use 100 and that's what the minimum is. That's the only place I looked tho. I'm thinkin about the small amt of space they take up., cause I don't have that much room.!!

I do have one. When they sent the co op plugs, there was an empty extra, so I cut it in 3rds and they were fine. I'd love to have the ones you are talking about if you can get me a price. Thanks so much!!! I've gotten obsessed with those things. I'm such an addict. Anything to do with plants and seeds!!! lol

Lorraine,

Try Ebay. I bought a lot of pots, and trays there last year for a good price. I can't find the pots in the local nurseries. If you split them with your daughter, and purchase a larger amount, the price is even better. You would be surprised at how many you use. Quantities are usuallly as low as 25.

You might also want to take a look at Charleys greenhouse.

One last thought. When I began growing from seeds last year, I did get a large plug tray. I quickly began to hate it. The problem that I ran into is if you are planning on growing different seeds in the tray, they end up needing different requirements at different times. Some of the seeds need to be covered because they haven't germinated yet, while the ones in the middle have germinated - what a mess (throwing hands up in air). The trays are probably a good idea if you are planting alot of the same items.

I did the same thing with the jiffy pellets, there were only 72 to a flat, but it was like you said , a big fat mess. I know the plug trays that came with the co op orders could be cut,. Did yours come with a cover? If that's the case then you couldn't cut the tray. A lot of stuff I planted I ended up with more than a tray, but dumb me, I'd plant stuff like you said, then decide I needed more. Blah, blah blah. Beating my head against the wall!!! lol
Bet we both learned a lesson, don't plant diff stuff in same tray, unless it germinates at same time!!!! Last year I used the six packs, 2 would fit in a gallon ziplock so that wouldn't be but 12 together. Can't find those either.

Thanks for the link!!!!

How many of those do you need Lorraine? If you will pay postage I'll mail them they will just go to waste I won't use them, I could cut them in sections of 6, there are 24 cells in a sheet, the cells are larger than a cell in a 6 pack. I gotta tell you though I'm with pennefeather when it comes to planting seeds in them, each cell has different requirements, but for plants or cuttings they are great. Dmail me if you want any of these :)

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I would love to have them. What do you mean that each cell has a different requirement? I'm real slow today (and most other ones)

Do you want to check shipping since you know how much they ? If you're too busy, just tell me what size and how much they weigh. I'll probably hate it too, I just have to try everything at least once before I die.
My last adventure was a tatoo when I turned 60, lol (Little butterfly on my shoulder no one can see)My grandkids are in shock. My nanny got a tatoo, I can't believe it!! Never thought I'd see that!!
And no, I'm not a leather wearing biker person. lol

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

It just seems like whenever I plant in them one cell is dry and another is wet, I just didn't care for them myself I needed to put something under different plugs so they could get wet because some of the others didn't need watering and they were the same plants, do you know what I mean, maybe you just had to be there lol

How many sheets did you want, I have several, ea sheet has 24 cells, you tell me then I will look for a box and try to fit them in Sunday then take them to the PO to have them weighed Monday.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Bless your heart. Maybe just 2 or 3? Now I'm scared to get many!!

I would probably use them for things like marigolds, they are pretty easy. Like I said, I just want to try them out. I know I hate the jiffy pellets and peat stuff, but most people like them!!! I'll find out and won't have to splend a ton of money. ; And please don't get in any hurry, I won't be using them for a while!!!

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

okie dokie, I'll get them together tomorrow and let you know Monday what the postage is :) I've got all kinds of boxes out in the garage so I'll see if I can find one that will fit lol

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Here is a link for where I got 5 new plug trays . . . one of the few websites that did not require you order cases of 100 . . . http://gardeners.harrisseeds.com/cart/search_results.asp?txtsearchparamcat=ALL&txtsearchparamtype=ALL&ilevel=1&txtsearchparamman=ALL&txtsearchparamven=ALL&txtfromsearch=fromSearch&txtsearchparamtxt=plug+tray

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks, I was going there today anyway. Found good seeds for our bulk seed trade., Off to look around.

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I won't be planting them anytime soon!!!! Will start sometime in Jan or Feb, so I don't think you should get in a rush!!!! lol

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I didn't see any boxes that they would fit in yesterday, I may have to get one of the PO boxes and turn it inside out lol

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I got one of the post office boxes but I still had to cut the plug trays once to get them to fit but I'm taking them down today to see how much the postage is, I'll let you know when I get back :) I got four trays in there.

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

The cost to mail parcel post is 5.94 if you want them just send the money and I will mail them to you :) I'm in the exchange.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Ok, so If I cut them apart, they could fit in po boX Which one. I was kind of thinking about do ing a small co op closer to fall

I will get your money out tomorrow, did you use paypal?

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I don't use pay pal sorry :) I really hated cutting them up but couldn't find a box to fit them in their full size, there are three rolls of cells on one and 5 on the other one.

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

Cool. Will mail check tomorrow or next day. I've begun to figure myself out, if I plan on things tomorrow, it happens the day after!!!
