New member with lots of questions

silver spring, MD(Zone 7a)

First of all I'm thrilled I joined Daves and found you guys. I'm laid up in bed with pneumonia and reading all your posts is keeping me going. My husband just saw me click onto one of the links and started to moan (visions of digging new beds are bouncing in his head).

I hear mentioned co-op's for ordering bulbs. How do we find out about them, how do we get involved? I really want to pack my garden with lillies but I also need to buy groceries too.

Thanks for being here

Co-ops here are a nice way to get bulbs at a reduced rate. Over the winter there were a couple of really nice ones that I participated in, one being Faraway Flowers

The other being Ednie Bulb.

Those co-ops are finished, but I expect there will be some sort of lily co-op for the fall. You can go to the co-op area of Dave's Garden and perhaps save it in your home page to keep track of what is new.

Dave gives a nice explanation on how the co-ops work and the rules and such.

Often someone will post it too, in the lily forum to make sure none of us miss out, if we'd like to be involved.

I hope you feel better soon and will be able to get out to the garden again.

LOL Your poor hubby..... tell him he'll fit right in with all the other 'garden widowers' or widows, in some cases.

Ask all the questions you want, if we don't know the answers we'll do our best to get you headed in the right direction.

Wow Mainiac! Who is that beauty??

The name I purchased it under is LF1. It came from Fogbelt Lilies (now out of business.)

That figures! :(

Why is it so many lilies disappear from sight?? I fell in love with one I got as a bonus from Lily Nook called Garden Treasure. I looked for it the following year and couldn't find it anywhere.

Welcome, yehudith! You'll fit in fine here!

A lot of lilies are discontinued because they have a short life, are vunerable to disease, or are not found favorable for the cut flower trade (which drives a lot of the lily business). Sometimes it is just a matter of recultivating them. It takes a good three years to bring a bulb back to market from scaling. Give them time. I may be available in a few years...
