How great is that you are actually going to be there. Can't wait to see the posts. Can't imagine designing anything even close to display for such a show.

(Zone 6a)

Can't wait!

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Forces of nature? Well, I could post a pic of all my smashed down cosmos from the wind, or the dug up pansies from the dogs?
I'll try to think of something more arty farty. Are we going to post them before, or after the Chelsea show?
Sue

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Candee,SW gardener and Sue!
Thats a good question Sue, I don't know, what shall we do everyone? Wait to get inspired by the show or have a go before we see what the designers do? Lets talk about it!!

(Zone 6a)

I don't have much to work with right now, so I'll have to do my 'forces of nature' later in the season. I've got a floral frog around here somewhere.......................just have to find it.

Steven

ps: an idea though that just came into my head so I need to find that frog!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

What ya all think about this. I don't have a whole lot goign on in the flower department yet either, but how abotu we start makign stuff as we can and getting pics together and then maybe after you come back from the show or right before the show we have our own show.

That will give us several weeks then to try and get some creative ideas and juices and maybe some flowers going.

So what does everybody think????????

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Sounds good Star!

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Steven, Do we have a man designer with us? great! hope you find your frog.
Thats is a good idea Star, no reason why we cant start putting things together until we all decide what to do.
I wasn't sure whether to put the themes all on one thread or to have them seperate, anyway we have the themes now, so thats all that matters!
Our show will be fantastic, we have designers from all over the world here on cut flowers!
I'm sure we will have lots of fun preparing for it and I can't wait to see what YOU all make!!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

Hey Sue, Star, Terri and Steven,
Very funny ,Sue and true!
Forces of nature, interesting! I'll be thinking about this one.
Adele

Hi Adele, Glad to hear you are thinking about it!

who likes Arty Farty ? .............. What is Arty Farty? ........... Is Modern Arty and Traditional Farty? !!!!!

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

I think arty farty means art being pretentious

Coffs Harbour, Australia

yeah, thats it! You know, I make an arrangement for 50cents and sell it for $500 in an arty farty place! (phhhhfff, I wish)

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi Steven.. Glad your joining us. Always great to see creativitivy from another person.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Hi everyone, welcome Steven, now what is that idea you got? Sue that is a great idea for this theme and likely simple to produce LOL.
Forces of nature, I really have to think on this one cause nothing comes to mind.

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Looking forward to this. . .

jeez, that's some force of nature!
Cute dog, he looks concerned for that poor little tree.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

You called it Sue, that is a winner if I ever saw one. I see now why you have a "boat garden" ^_^

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Oh gosh Sue, that looks terrible. Hope everything is okay.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

I was walking home admiring the new blooms on the trees and I thought of the life cycle as being a powerful force of nature. So here are some blooms being quietly forceful.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Oh Adele, that is a lovely gathering and lovely thought. Great job, what are the flowers if you know?

Coffs Harbour, Australia

Hey Adele, I love the winged seeds, what are they? Thanks for bringing in some flowers. That should set off some ideas for us all!
I hadn't noticed the little tree till you mentioned it, how funny! Its a paperbark and they love water! They pop up all over the place. Do you want one? Poor Leo was concerned because he was getting water in his eyes! He follows me anywhere, rain hail or shine!
Thanks Karma, but it all drained away overnight and we've had 2 days of sunshine to dry out, (still have to wear gumboots around the lawn) The tanks are full and I haven't had to water anything for quite some time! So its all good.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi haighr and Sue, thanks and sorry, I don't know the names of the trees,I'm guessing the winged seeds are some sort of maple. I'm glad its all good in the land down under.

london England, United Kingdom

Adele, Sorry, I totally missed your post . It's a pretty arrangement and I love your vase.

london England, United Kingdom

My ticket has arrived! I'm starting to get excited about the show......

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Oh you lucky dog you! Can't wait to see the photos.

(Zone 6a)

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcomes :)
sorry I haven't been on, I just finished moving and still haven't found my frog.............................I assume it's in with the rest of my vases ect. so I'll have to find those boxes.

My idea was some mini daffodils sort of spiraled around some blue spruce(if that makes sense) but the mini daffs are gone now :( I've got a bunch of plants outside in pots from my previous garden so I'll have to see if I can create anything from that.

Steven

(Zone 6a)

heres my force of nature, since I was seriously lacking in flowers to use aside from some flowering almond branches, I decided my force of nature is texture.

edited for spelling :)

I like the way you think SW, very clever idea for the force of nature. The pine needles in the mix of textures really sets it off and then to have thought of the separate but incorporated mix of petals is genius. Great arrangement. What are those little variegated leaves?
Candee

(Zone 6a)

Hi Candee! Thanks, I'm glad you like my arrangement :) The variegated leaves are a variety of Jacobs Ladder, but I forget the name. Theres also some Dicentra and Meadow Rue leaves. The flowering almond is just starting to open up now.

Steven

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Oh yes Steven the dicentra, I see it now. You are a bit behind us as my almond is already finished. Wish the blooms would last longer, it seems to be one of my shortest blooming plants of all. I
Jacobs Ladder, yes that word is always on the tip of my tongue, but can never seem to get it out when I need to.

(Zone 6a)

I really like the almond, the one outside hasn't quite opened yet either, it's been unseasonably cool aound here....The Dicentras are just starting aswell.
I'm looking forward to seeing actual pictures from the flower show, it's going to be fun.

BTW, I like your arrangement Diggerette, the taller branch brings fireworks to mind.
I like the addition of the maple flowers, less showy blooms and seeds of some trees are so often overlooked.

Steven

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Morning all,
I have to tell you that I actually woke up in the middle of the night Adele thinking of your arrangement and thinking of the character you gave it for the forces of nature. I stayed awake a while thinking about what the force of nature means to me and am sure I will come up with something sometime.
Thanks again for the inspiration.

Steven, I was just posting on another thread the beauty of DG is how great it is that we can enjoy others' gardens long before our own are in bloom and then again long after. Keep us posted with yours.

Candee

(Zone 6a)

Thanks Candee :) I'll be making more arrangements once more is blooming outside, the delphiniums should be blooming in a month or so :) I'll keep you all posted.

Steven

london England, United Kingdom

Hi Steven, Interesting selection of foliage used in your arrangement, nice contrasts in colours and textures.
Like the way the flowers are in their own container... clever!
I haven't seen variagated Jacobs ladder before! look forward to seeing more of your arrangements and garden. Lucky you to have Delphiniums, I have tried several times to grow them, but they end up being eaten by slugs every time. LoL!!

Hi Candee, Don't stay awake all night thinking about flowers, LoL!! Love the way one idea bounces off another, when we see each others ideas.
I haven't had any ideas yet. No doubt something will come to me eventually!
Only 2 weeks to go!

(Zone 6a)

Hi Terri, thanks for the compliments :) I really like that jacob ladder, it's loaded with bloom stalks this year so it should be really nice once the blue flowers are out.
I should take some pics of my 'garden' so you can see it, I recently moved so all my plants are in pots, it's an arrangement in itself!
Delphiniums are tricky, I've only ever managed to keep to alive, the one I've had for atleast 12 years so it came with me :)

Steven

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7a)

Morning All,
Candee, I understand, forces of nature is such a broad and complex concept that it is hard to focus on one idea. I hope you think of something soon and get a good night sleep. I know you'll make a beautiful arrangemwnt when you do. BTW, I love the presents you made Terri!
Steven,Wow what a brillant idea using textures for representing force of nature. Adaptation is certainly one of the most powerful forces of nature. I just bougt a jacobs ladder for the first time not knowing anything about it other than it is native to the northeast and it likes shade. I'm glad to hear it has a pretty bloom
Hi Terri!
