CSRU plant questions

Dallas, TX

I acquired something at the CSRU called "Be Still". I would love to know what it is with such an interesting name.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Mary Lee, I wouldn't put the Red Dragon plant in full sun. It needs regular watering...maybe put it as a border plant?

Dallas, TX

Gemma is precious! Tabitha what are those pretty pink flowers in your yard?

Humble, TX

The package said "St. Brigid Anemone." I think they are Anemone coronaria. I also had some red and deep purple ones bloom too! They are lovely and early blooming. I hope they come back next year.

Tabitha, I try to grow them but they dont work for me. I thought they grew from little bulbs and I never knew they got that big! Oh well, I will have to try them again. :)

I need to know what this "BE STILL" plant is ... please somebody!

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

That goes for me also,...I rec'd a "BE STILL" plant .....I'd like to know about it , as well as who was kind enough to pass it along! My thanks in advance!

Humble, TX

Sylvia, they did grow from little bulbs. I planted them in the fall and then they were up early this spring with no extra watering or care. I had never heard of them before and didn't really think they would grow, but they did!

Now that you mentioned it, I think it might have been sharon banister who brought them. I think she gave me one as well that mom planted.

Those of you who received a Salvia sinaloensis "Bi Color" from me will be interested in this picture of some blooms on one of my older plants. That's Indigo Spires in the background - above & below.
I hope it's just now getting started bloomin'...they've increased twofold in 2 days. Lee

I have two plants that I received at the CSRU and can't ID either of them.

One, I think, is Ceejay's Black Pearl, but I don't know which one. The green plant looks more like a pepper plant, but is the wrong color. The dark plant is the right color, but doesn't look like the leaves of the Black Pearls I've seen.

Any help appreciated.

I am guessing purple basil for the one, rub a leaf and see if it smells like basil. The other one I am not sure.

No, don't think it's a basil. No fragrance. Also, the leaves are quite a bit bigger and more ruffled. Whatever it is, it's very pretty!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Hmmm.....my only other thought is a coleus?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I think the purple plant is Perilla, and the green plant looks like Cowpen daisy, but not sure.
Josephine.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Hmmm. The purple one could be a coleus or a perilla.

I don't remember asking for a cowpen daisy, but I sure would've taken one if someone offered it. I just don't remember anyone doing that.

Right now all I can figure out is that I did ask Ceejay for Black Pearl (ornamental pepper), and I remember her handing it to me and telling me that's what it was, and I have a tag for it. But neither of these plants really look like the photos. And I don't have anything else that's unaccounted for.

Ceejay, where are you?

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Neither are Black Pearl, but I don't know what they could be... Sorry.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay, well, then, I will just have to wait until something blooms and go from there. Thanks anyway!

Patti the purple plant is a weed! It is some kind wild Basil and is everywhere. I try pulling it up, but to no avail. I have a entire corner of it in my Hosta bed, but it look so pretty with the Ferns running through it, I just leave it there. It loves shade and can get really huge! My neighbor loves it, bought a pot of it for 2.00! lol

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Does your wild basil have a fragrance? This one doesn't have any kind of smell. It's really a pretty plant, though.

I'd still like to know what happened to Ceejay's Black Pearl! Oddest thing... I have the tag, but not the plant. :(

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

That's strange. I remember giving it to you, too. It was a nice plant - not too big, not too small...

The color of your plant reminds me of Salvia lyrata 'Purple Knockout', but I'm not sure the leaves are quite that frilly....

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Hmmm... I don't think it's a salvia. After looking at the stems, I think it's probably a coleus or perilla. I did trade coleus with several people, but don't remember who gave me this plant. I'll try to get some better pictures tomorrow.

Yes, I remember you giving me the Black Pearl, and I asked you what it was, and you told me. How did I get home with the tag but not the plant? I'm just flummoxed.
