Oh boy, do I have questions!
First, whoever gave me turk's cap, please tell me which one this is. I didn't realize how many there were.
I have a plant marked Herbertia something and I can't read the next word. I know you told me but I can't remember.
And somebody gave me ginger, but I can't remember what kind.
CSRU plant questions
Hmmm....I'm betting a few of us had turk's cap. I had a tall one that there were rooted cuttings of on the table. If anyone took those, they get very tall, about as tall as my roof, and kind of sprawling. The blooms turn downwards. I have a pic somewhere if someone wants to see it.
Kim
I can't make the RUs but this is a common problem that surfaces post RUs... I might suggest for the future ones that the plant parents also put their names on the plant ID tags.
Good luck with IDs. Sounds like a great time was had by all.
That is a good idea pod...it is difficult keeping track of everything sometimes. I know I was so busy getting ready for this RU I was lucky if the plants had names! Lol...
Anyone who has plant labels that are cut up miniblinds with black marker on them, those are mine. Also the plastic and foam cups with names on them in black marker. Hopefully that helps a little.
:) Kim
What an effort you made what with school and all. Sounds like a resounding success!
Mine were on cut-up (blue) mini blinds also. Most of mine had had both common and botanical name.
This turks cap I have is in what I think is a 2 gallon black pot and it's not a cutting. It looks like is has several years woody growth on it. It was very generous for somebody to share this huge plant. I hope whoever it was see this.
Not mine then! Lol.... Lee (WillisTxGarden) was giving out a lot of huge plants in big black pots. Maybe check with him? He gave me two huge loquats planted from seeds he got while down helping rebuild after Katrina. Mom took one, and we will both treasure them.
Kim
Mary Lee - the Turk's Cap was a Malvaviscus drummondii
and the Herbertia lahue is also called Prairie Nymph. My apologies for the incomplete labels. I ran out of time trying to get all that together....I started a new job that required me to work at night (and sleep during the day) and that really cut into my free time. Hope you enjoythem! Lee
Glad you are happy with the loquats, Kim! I was delighted to find out (yesterday) that my oldest loquat is now bearing fruit,... mmmmm!
It was about 6 yrs ago when I planted that one (a gift from a friend in the Liberty area)
Hey Ann - Plantladyhou! Hope all is well. We sure missed you at this RU!
I tried to write all the names on the pots with a sharpie, but I ran out of time, so some weren't marked.
Lee, you'll have to race the mockingbirds for the loquats :)
No joke there about Lee's Large Plants, he gave me a magnificent Flatwood Plum. A perfect Prunus umbellata specimen!
Bob
Yes - and he brought me the most beautiful redbud and even an extra smaller one! (oh and the butterfly cage as a door prize trade!) Thanks Lee!
Spiderwort...The short ones we have @ the Farm are Tradescantia. Those you got Saturday could be the Tradescantia Gigantea.
Willis, no apologies necessary. I appreciate the plants.:) I understand how work can interfere with gardening too. I would've had more rooted cuttings if it hadn't been for work
I gave you two large butterfly gingers - unpotted. Sorry they weren't marked. DH had to dig them up for me at the last minute, and we just bagged them.
And my pots had mini-blinds marked with pencil. Colored paper dots on the back with your names. However, someone took some of the reserved plants, and I substituted extras that I brought if I could. Named, but without the dots and person's name on the back.
Yeah, I think I have most of Lee's soil from his yard!! Big pots!
Cj, are you talking to me? I don't think I have butterfly gingers. The only things I have without soil are La iris from Bob and Dollie's hidden ginger. Atleast that's what I think it is. The leaves are sort of variegated and the root is about 8 inches or so long.
BTW Dollie, how deep do I plant this ginger?
Silverflutter - I left home without taking my trade lists (duh...). I looked at it today and had you down for a So Lovely day lily. Dmail me your address, and I'll drop one in the mail to you.
Anyone else I missed - dmail me and I'll send them on by snail mail.
Well thanks Bookworm, I'll do that.:)
I did get a daylily though. Atleast I assume it is a daylily. The leaves look like all my other daylilies. But the tag on it says fulva flora pleno. I am very puzzled. Never heard of a daylily by that name.:) Does anybody remember this one?
Also I adopted a plant that was left on one of the tables. It was at the opposite end of the row where the name tags were. I don't know who was sitting there. The tag on that one says Queen's Tears. Was this an extra or does it belong to somebody?
Hemerocallis fulva 'Flore Pleno'
http://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/perennials/other-perennials/hemerocallis-fulva-flore-pleno/ClassID.2928/
I just re-read the trade thread and I think the fulva flora pleno was supposed to go to Charlene. I don't know how I got it. Can't remember where Charlene lives.
Did you get your plants out from under the table? Do you remember that I put them down there for you? You got Mickey Mouse elephant ears, lemongrass, Philippine lilies, and black pear peppers too, along with the two butterfly gingers.
I brought Hemerocallis fulva flora pleno for Charlene, Trishann, and cannagirl. I'm not sure cannagirl got her plants. They were in a box on the table you set up on, silver. I started there and moved to a back table because of the wind. Her box was left there.
I brought the queens' tears too. I had no idea what happened to them. Until now. Hope you enjoy them!!

Well I would love to keep the Queen's tears, but I couldn't enjoy it know that it was supposed to be somebody else's. But from what you said they are cannagirl's and not Charlene's. Right?
And yes I did get my plants. Thanks very much. Can't wait to get those Mouse Ears in the ground. The will really lighten up a shady spot.
I brought the queen's tears for anyone who would like them, and so they are yours!
What does the marker on the daylily say? On the back, written on the dots, was the name of the intended receiver. But I have plenty, so keep it and I'll send one to her. No problem.
Those MM ears will grow in full sun or shade. Remember - they'll get very large.
I have a few plants that people handed me that didn't have tags. I also have a couple that had tags, but somehow they got wet and the writing rubbed off. I'm going to post pictures in the next couple of days, because everything I came home with is beautiful, and I sure don't want to put any of these lovelies in the wrong spot!
Ceejay, I came home with one of your Philippine lilies. Don't remember asking for it, although my memory isn't the best. But it's a beauty, so I hope I didn't end up with it by mistake. If I did, I'll be willing, um, sort of (LOL), to pass it along to the rightful heir.
pb - You asked for it and you got it. Good!
I never looked at the dot, but it does say cannagirl. Orange is not one of my colors, but I can keep it and bring it to the next RU. Maybe it'll be a doorprize next year.:)
I'm excited about the Queen's tears. Somebody at the RU told me what to do with it, but I can't remember. Does it need sun to bloom? They said plant it in spagnum moss.
Well, thanks! I don't remember, but you must have said something that made me look it up and think it was pretty, so I know we'll enjoy it. :)
silver - I just plant it in well draining potting soil. They like to be crowded. No afternoon sun - morning or trickled sun is good.
pb - I really like that daylily. It is vigorous, and will multiply. But then, I like the colors. Orange was out for awhile, but now I love it. It's a double/triple and has a red halo. If you don't like orange, you won't like it.
Silver - maybe you got all of cannagirls plants. They would have been sitting next to you, in a box, and you probably thought they were yours because they went unclaimed. Please, keep them if you have them. They would have been tossed if someone hadn't taken them. She must have left before I got there.
I'm sorry that I never got the chance to talk to Dollie and a few others.
I'm glad y'all liked the trees/shrubs....(all from seed)....I enjoyed givin' them away about as much as growin' them!
So,......we have to wait another year for the next RU? :) Too much fun to wait THAT long !
Well, you could come up for one of the north Texas ones! There's one next Saturday in Waxahachie, and always one in the fall in Arlington. Great time, and lots of folks who couldn't make it to CS.
Willis, Kim, Trish & some more of us can't go a whole yr w/o one in the fall! May only be a handful of us but we will get together, I'm almost sure.
& by the way, I have been to Arlington in the fall. Took my mom last fall! & Friday, I'm headed up to the Garden Party as soon as I can get off this Farm!!!
:~)
PS...I sit on ready & just wait on go! lol
Please Lee and Dee, come to Waxahachie, it is going to be a little different and a lot of fun, and of course you have to come to the one in Arlington this Fall.
Josephine.
Well, at least I wasn't the only one that lost track of some plants! I had some marked for trade that never made it out of the truck...darn! My mistake for not checking that carefully. But Sheila and I really loved the event, even if things did get a bit confusing at times. It was worth the trip.
The first one kinda looks like one of my clara curtis mums. Not sure about the second one.
Willis have you ever rooted scutteleria long.? I don't know what I did wrong, but I really want to learn how to do that.
More questions.
Pbtx would the dunce cap sedum and echeveria morning light be hardy in a pot in winter in 8a?
I am tring to find info on Astantia Major. Maybe I'm not spelling it right.
Is the sedum Mexicanum winter hardy in a pot?
Next year I'm going to (if I remember) make a list of plants that I've asked for and write down the descriptions and other info I need. I am sure all these questions were already answered on the trade thread and I feel bad asking them again.
