I started 3 seeds for this last year, and the seedlings were doing pretty good (according to Ron!), in the ground. Of course, winter came along, and I piled some extra soil and mulch on them. Well, you know how winter makes everything look "icky". 2 out of the 3 seedlings didn't make it - that is to say, they dried out on top - maybe something will come out from the roots, I don't know. But the 3rd seedling - though it lost it's leaves - kept a green color under the . . . skin?
Anyway, I've been watering 2-3 times per week, starting to wonder if anything will happen, then I find this!
I only hope that the Merremia tuberosa will do the same!
I. albivenia
Thanks, Joseph. If you put yours in the ground, make sure you mulch it well in the winter!
Oh, I forgot to mention to you . . . I was looking at your member page over the weekend, and my DS said "Mommy, that man has a bug on his head!"
OMG, Joseph - you DO have a bug on your head! A really big one. They'd be hauling me off to the funny farm if one of those was hanging out on my head!
Healthy, happy looking MG Nichole!
Joanne
Hey Nichole - Really nice that the Ipomoea albivenia is doing so well...
I wonder what color throat yours will have (pink or yellow) and if the corolla will be smooth or 'crinkly' / pleated...
The 'wild kotten' should be fragrant either way...
TTY,...
Ron
Thanks, Ron. I'm really looking forward to finding out about the color, too! Um . . . any ideas on whether I'll get blooms this year?
Interesting vine, Nichole! Is this a perennial MG?
It is, Becky. I started these seeds last May . . . the first year was for root development, now I'm hoping to see the vines take off this year!
That's cool! I wonder how aggressive it would grow in my hot zone? (zone 9b/10a) I saw the photos in PlantFile and couldn't believe how huge this vine grows! WOW! Is it fragrant?
I don't know yet - this is the first time I've grown it. Seems to me I was reading a post where someone said it was very fragrant . . . I want to say it was Joseph, but it may have been someone in the Brug forum . . .
