Is any one growing Ben Franklin Tree Franklinia Alamahata?

I just got one and would like any tips about it from experienced growers.

I also received 4 native Azaleas and am excited to see how they grow here among all the hybrids.

I planted one this spring. The one I planted last year failed; of course we had a record drought and also deer browsed it.

downscale, I hope your soil is naturally acidic. I had one for about 4 years. I even got to see it bloom once. Even though I acidified and amended the sandy soil and fertilized with fertilizer for acid loving plants, at the beginning of the 4th spring the new growth was yellow. Nothing I added helped. The poor thing gave up the ghost before the end of the summer. Whatever else it needs, it needs acidic soil.

Thanks for the links.

We do indeed have acid soil.In fact our local garden center sells 25lb bags of Hollytone because most of us here grow acid loving plants.

Many of my favorite plants seem to prefer acidic soil. Our ranch is located within the Post Oak Savanna soils types and has a mixture of soils. My DH just happened to pick an alkaline patch for the house location.
