Just FYIon my Tiger Lily propagation.....

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This is a Lily I have had for a few years. Where it came from--I do not know. But it bloomed every year. It was in a really yukky spot--that is why I think it just grew there on it's own.

Over a few years--it seemed to have multiplied and the blooms were getting smaller and smaller.

Last Spring--I collected all the bulbils from the leaf-axils and planted them all in a small window box. This WB stayed outside all Winter, protected against the base of my house and covered with some leaved. To my surprise--all the builbils had sprouted!

First of all--here is the Lily. Anyone have the correct, botanical name for it, please?

Here is the Window Box as it appeared earlier this Spring with all the sprouted bulbils.

Today (4/11) I decided to transplant all of them individually into cell-packs.

Here is what the seedlings looked like.
Does anyone know how many years it would take before these grew into bloom-sized Lilies??????

And this is how many cell-packs I got out of the oval Window Box.

Will keep them as best I can and let them grow in these until they get too big for the cramped quarters.

I got my start from my Mom who passed away in March. I think they will bloom the next year. I have many who are coming up from last year. I just love them. Her soil was worn out and wet but they bloomed year after year for her. I will post a picture when it happens.

They look great. You'll have a ton of big lilies there one day.

Hey Gita !!
Wow that looks great !! Gosh... just how many did you get from that ONE plant??
I remember a neighbor had lots of these and I believe she called them Tiger lilies. That was in TN. and they grew like weeds for her. She gave me some, and that was waaaay back in the "day" when I didn't know anything..lol and mine really did well too!!
Good seeing you and good work !!

Bulblets have a habit of finding their way below ground, they can be laying right on top and they will find their way down. i had a wild tiger lily that was orange like yours, mine got 10 feet ++, how tall is yours ? My tame tiger does seem to spread more than the wild one did and the flowers are bigger.
It can take 3-5 years until they bloom, it just depends on the variety, location etc. But the wait is worth it.
btw, I potted up some oriental lilies bublets I found on the ground , right on top in 20 degree weather about 2 months ago, they are ready to go outside.

Lynda,

YES! I am going to Becky's. Wouldn't miss it!!!!

I have plenty! Did you see my transplant photo? But--they are still a few years away from being a real plant. I will be bringing them for sure.

I am also bringing some dug-up Naked Lady Lilies (from my neighbor's yard). I have posted a picture of them also.

I am not to "needy" on trades as I do not have much room for new stuff. My pleasure is giving something to someone if they don't have it--and want it.
