DAILY BUTTERFLIES Page 34
Now for the real excitement...I've often complained that I don't see passion vine in the wild although I know it's got to be around somewhere. I obtained a passiflora incarnata last year and last week I noticed it had just sprouted some new growth. I saw some plants that I thought looked a lot like today and so I inspected further. The first few I saw had nothing on them, but then I walked into a little area that had been cleared by the fire. I saw some Gulf Frits flying around which is always a good sign. Then, I saw a plant that looked a little chewed! I found a couple Gulf Frit cats so I knew I had a passiflora. I kept looking and found - my first Zebra Longwing cat!
Elaine, I've got one more! By the way, I'm really glad I can share the ZLW cat with the kids and teach them the state butterfly. In other happenings, one of my new Zebra ST cats attacked "Stripey" (yeah, I named him). He was leaking fluid and I could see a little wound on him. I separated them and put Stripey in a different cage. He started eating this leaf he's on; in particular, he ate the vein that runs through the middle so I'm hoping he got a lot of water out of it and replaced some fluids. He's eaten more of the leaf since I took the pic so I hope he's going to recover.
Hope you enjoyed sharing my day!

Good pictures, as usual, Melanie. I love the ZLW cat. He is so cute. I haven't found one of those yet, but I see ZLW flying around. I'll have to do like you, and follow them, jumping fences, and all. : )

Last year when I saw Zebra STs mating I I actually crawled under a barbed wire fence to follow them. I felt like I was playing war games, lol!
LOL, I can just see you doing that. I've done it a few times, myself. : )
LMAO here.. seeing yu skinnying under that barbed wire and your shirt getting caught or hair.?? My passion vine is just sprouting. so can't wait to see those gulf frits everywhere.
Lucy,, we need to get Linda over here. She had lots of Z. Longwings on her Golden dewdrops last year.
I got lots of new plants for butterflies today at SE GA plant swap. Such a nice bunch of folks. Debra (Cordeledawg) was there. Going out tomorrow to see if she left any eggs on the plants I got from her...
Nitey nite.
Elaine
I doubt C-dawg left you any cats, Elaine. She would have had them all picked off for herself. lol (jk)
We will get Linda interested more in her BF's, just wait till she sees me raising them, she'll have to try it herself. : ) With all of us, it's like monkey see, monkey do. lol
beautiful gardenpom.
This weekend I saw a baby blue butterfly the size of my thumbnail! I'm sorry I did not get a picture. I never knew such a small one existed!
Hey all!
I had a busy weekend, what with the plant swap and party in Waxahachie TX! We had a blast!

Nice Black Swallowtail Cat! Giant Swallowtails also use the Rue, always good to have a nice size patch of that plant. Particularly up north where citrus is harder to keep.
Great capture on the Luna Moth Mishkas!
Elphaba! Great shots of your Poly, TCheck Skipper, and the Snout! Thanks for sharing!
Lovely shots of the Monarch GP!!
As usual Melanie you've outdone yourself. Great stage shots of the eclosing sulphur! Worth is's own thread in fact! :-)
