Can anyone tell me how to get starts from this plant

Gilbert, AZ

I am really new at this; but would like to start some plants from this lady slipper. I tried water. The cutting bloomed but the end in the water just turned black. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Good gardening

This is a (I hope I spell this correctly) Euphorbiaceae Pedilanthus macrocarpus (It matches that flower) In the plant files it does not say how to start this plant. I can't get it out of the pot. So I can't just divide it. Any help please.

Sorry I dont know much about your plant and am new to the cutting scene also. Have you tried a rooting hormone? I have been using one and ahve had no problems getting cuttings started - but I have not ever tried a lady slipper.
Good luck! ^_^

Is this the same plant? According to the link it should be very easy to propagate by stem cuttings. I am very new to propagating plants but since you have such a large plant I would think you could take several cuttings, dip them in a rooting hormone and then put them in a pot or maybe in the ground. I would also try to take a couple stalks and dig in to the soil to get some roots, cut the stalks back to 6 inches or so and then pot it up. Somewhere I read that if you want to try rooting plants in water you would want to change the water daily. You have such a large plant that I would try several different methods. Just my $.02 :) I'm sure someone else with more experience will chime in.

You can shape up your momma plant. Each piece you cut off can be cut into 4-6" pieces. All MUST be healed over b4 planting. No rooting in water. After healed over, plant in soil & they will take off but slowly.
Have some that broke off of my momma plant & I'm cutting them tonite.

Personally, from the looks of it, it needs to be re potted. when things get this rootbound, there is often very little soil left in the pot. You may need to split the pot to get it out, even if it is a special container, it will split on it's own before long.
I would get it out asap and cut or pull those roots apart making several smaller but more healthy plants.
