Spacing on living Quince Fence?

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

How far apart should I space my Flowering Quince in order to have a nice solid line of them down my property?
Can I trim them into a nice hedge or should I let them "be Quincy"? lol

Thanks guys!!!

All the Flowering Quinces I've ever seen have been rather sprawling, straggly things, usually much wider than high - a nice shrub, but not very suitable for a hedge.

Well,
I have a large one already, I don't mind the slightly sprawling habit.
I was thinking about planting Quince and Forsythia since they both bloom at the same time.
Might be an eyesore with all that colour though, lol.

So I can't trim it?
That's okay, I just really love those pink blooms!
The thorns are good too, won't have many beagle (rabbit) hunters walking across our yard and dropping guts, LOL.

Thanks Resin!

There's a quince hedge near me at a library. You can trim them, but since they don't fill out uniformly, they look odd. Kinda like a long thin block of swiss cheese!
In a public place, they're a real trash magnet too.

I love quince in the spring. Where I am, there's far too much yellow forsythia everywhere! I think mixing them would look great, but I suspect that the forsythia would overtake the quince in a short time unless you battled it back on a regular basis.

Well, if I mix the two Ill trim the forsythia and let the quince grow free, lol.
Or maybe I'll plant a privet hedge between each quince. I dunno hehe.
I kind of really like how our quince grows.
Thanks for responding! :-)

Jocie -
There is a lot of quince in this area, many times it is coupled with forsythia. Looks lovely. I would think if you want a quince hedge spacing should be maybe 4 ft. from each other. That way the sprawling form wouldn't make such a difference. A lady I work with has promised to get me some quince cuttings so I can mix it in with my forsythia. The quince in the catalogs is just not the same as what is growing in everyone's yard around here. Good luck, Pam
