And here is what it looks like now

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Just to remind you where I was in January in the wild garden - admittedly not very far along, but hey, I was making it up as I went along

And, surprise, here is the first section 'finished' (I know Tills, but that refers to hard landscaping, not planting!! Sheesh!) - this is probably as far as the steps will get this season - too much weeding and planting and seeding and wheelbarrowing to do now that everything is growing! TA-dahhhhhhh! I'm so proud of these.

And another - I just love this area and the way it is coming along. And the weather on Thurs and Friday really felt like spring - lusciously warm, working in shirtsleeves and whistling along with the birds. Got loads and loads of weeding done!

One more, okay? The plan is that the steps will eventually come all the way down the grassy slope - and slope it does - there were times I was out here and literally had to work on my knees because I couldn't keep my feet under me (fortunately cordouroy trousers have great traction!) It is treacherously slippy below the steps - has DH can attest to. Poor boy.

Saturday was okay for working - not gorgeous, but stayed dry - and then Sunday we got this.

And other then work in the greenhouse, the only thing I could do was take photos -

It just kept on snowing, big fluffy dry snow, beautiful - but would have preferred it in January. Even in the greenhouse, it just got too cold - I had enough.

My vegetable beds - thankfully, unplanted.

I checked out in the front, just to make sure it was snowing there too - you can always hope.

One last photo, and then I went inside, feeling about as happy as these poor grape hyacinths. And poohbah, it is clear and sunny today - and guess where I am! Workwork.

Please, enough of this white stuff, bring on spring! Oh, this is spring. Weeeellllllllll, get on with the rest of it!

It was looking lovely for a while there Laurie...............

They are saying that we are in for some more snow here....... don't know about where you are!!!

http://uk.weather.com/weather/

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Okay, I checked that weather link, and on the 16th of April, they are forecasting a 0% chance of precipitation. 16th of April!!!! I'll be a prune by then! (Sat/Sun have a 60% chance! I'd say that is a dead cert!) BAhh, bahhh (oh, all those poor little lambies out in the snow yesterday - not happy).

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I have often wondered why sheep have their lambs in Feb / March............ it has never made much sense to me.

That site i sent you the link to is pretty accurate too............. its a good site!!!!!

16th April........................ wow, that is a long wait!!! LOL

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

I think you should have a word with the sheep - perhaps they are working on an out of date calendar -

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Maybe i should........................................LOL

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

You live in a lovely spot of this old earth. It is just beautiful. Good job on those steps.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Congratulations Laurie! Steps look great, as does the woven garden edge- a perfect fit for your wild, but partly tamed, garden.
You get more done in a few months, despite the bouts of snow, than I manage in several whole years. You are amazing.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

OOOOOOOOH, Laurie, Laurie "I so love it" Love the way that tree bends, and to me kinda puts it all together. wish I had enough willows to do some of that weaving.
But I think Taming the wild garden has just been Tamed. Snow or not,^_^

I'll be along shortly with mine, its moving very slowly. kinda like you work and weather do not want to cooperate with each other. Signnnn.

Just Loven It, more pics please

Laurie,
Just breathtaking, and I am not talking about the snow. I love every bit of your work. The daffodils are lovely too.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Thank you thank you, bows and blushs (nah, not really, but a bit of humility before grinning) I am just chuffed to bits with it - a lot of grunting and aching and d#~ning and shoving went into it! The big rocks are ones the guys dug out of the back when they were doing the patio, and I had them store them up in the field - not exactly one of my best plans - meant I had to get them onto the tank and down into place in the wild area (that video that Katie put up about the man rebuilding Stonehenge was sooooo helpful!) - but it was really worth it -

I'm not sure it is tamed yet, (a close look at the greenery shows how much there is to do), but at least I now have a modicum of structure! And as Tils says "I'm loven it!"

Brandon, MS(Zone 8a)

Lauri, such talent! More pics as the landscape evolves, please!

Martha

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Martha, welcome to the Pnw - this is a great group! Each and everyone a plantaholic/gardeningaholic - so hope you stop in often. And thank you for the compliment - I think we all work in our own little world, so coming out here in DG gives us the praise/critique/suggestions that we all need to keep shoving/digging/sowing/planting!! And don't worry, I'll post as I progress - I love the feedback!

Brandon, MS(Zone 8a)

Laurie, I await the next pics with much anticipation! I hang out with the Mid-South gang, but you will see more of me here. Y'all are fun and entertaining. Love it!

LAURIE ~ MY QUEEN! Your "tamed" wild garden looking absolutely fantabulous! I LOVE the woven border (my pilfer the idea for myself) and the tree "tunnel." I can't hardly wait to see what's next. Keep providing the hard work and inspiration, and we'll keep providing the "ooohs and aaaahs" and praise! Oh...and keep up with the ~ well, I don't know if they're "britisms" or "Laurieisms" ~ but "chuffed to bits." I love it! I'm using it...

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

good northern expression that - tried to find the origin but alas, lost in time - but feel free to purloin phrases and ideas - all applications are free floating creativity!! Outta, when is the planning party, don't forget to send lay-outs to those of us a bit too far to make the day trip. (And thank you for the scrapping and bowing - does tickle the toes of royalty!)

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

I just can't wait for the magic bus to Lauries, don't forget to stop by and get me!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Laurie,

This is so beautifully done- to borrow a phrase I heard somewhere or other, Stamp!! Approved!!! ;)

Yes, more pictures, please!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

tils is the driver, and she has already made her list - I can't imagine she would leave any one off - including cats dogs and gold fish!!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Oh, it is so nice to be on the other end of the STAMP! hurrah!

That is about as far as it will progress this summer - now to concentrate on the vegetable beds or there will be no salads this summer!! Yikes! Get the peas in! String up the bean support - plant out the strawbs! We're coming, don't panic!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

??? Goldfish ??? you mean Pix's fish? LOL
Won't forget anyone.

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Laurie ~ The planning party is 17 May. DH and I are going out this weekend to make all the measurements (I've already got some and have started the lay out). Don't fret...with what I've seen from your pix, I most CERTAINLY want your input! Maybe Tils can zip the magic bus over there and bring you here for the party!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

LOL still trying. Where can I find a Purple Flying Bus ?

But I just might make it. LOL

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Laurie, your garden is divine - I am sighing with pleasure.

(Obviously I'm not keeping up on threads right now, but sure glad I didn't miss this one!)

Laurie! It is magnificent! Many stamps and approves and bows/curtsies in your general direction! I know your fairies are just dancing with glee, even with the snow. Poor you! We had that nasty weather here as well. What gives with snow in April, I ask you??? It is completely ABnormal!
Love the little wattle fence. Too sweet and very useful and tidy!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Oh, Pix, no one has ever said I was tidy before - I've been waiting my entire life - I'm printing that out and giving a copy to my DH AND my mum!!! I'm going to have a t-shirt made "I am a gardener and Pixy said I am tidy!" Thank you - signed here in the muddy bottomed trousers!

Murmur, me too, I'm so glad you didn't miss this thread - and I also glad you like it. Coming from you that is high praise. Hope Steve is doing well. We think of you, alot.

Tills, you know flying purple buses don't just come along regularly - you have to be patient. It'll turn up.

work

LOL! Well, at least your little wattle fence is tidy! If you would like to consider yourself tidy as well, I'm sure I have no room to disagree at all. Myself, I have finally broken down and sold my soul to a professional organizer. Fortunately, I am bartering with her,, so it is not costing me a fortune. It was a hard step to allow anyone to see my linen closet. But now I am closet-proud!
Glad to see you checking in, murmur! I do hope all is well.

Isn't Tilly's bus the same as the night bus from Harry Potter?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

No, that one doesn't automatically turn in at every nursery it goes by, (which probably explains why the schedule is so irregular).....or have flower boxes by all the windows....

[Edited to add-After all, there are only so many purple flying buses. Tils can't take over and drive it until it gets here, after all....]

Susy, that is so funny - and Pix, I am sooooooooooo desperate to just once be considered tidy, that I will use any tidy-compliment!!!!!!! I have been sitting with patients, and realized 'ohmigawd, the state of my hands' and yup, the ten minutes between one and the next, I popped outside to pull a few weeds out of the pots in front of the house - my work trousers have dirt crumbs, deadheads, and wilty weeds in them (and a regular supply of dog-pooh bags - unused ones of course, the full ones make your pockets bulge). The drycleaners put gloves on before emptying my pockets.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Sighing....That is so lovely Laurie....makes my back ache just looking at all that work!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

thank you, lavendar - much appreciated. (NE is nebraska? Are you out of winter yet?)
