Pine Needle baskets for trade for Plants

I am temporarily closing this trade until I get caught up. I have had such a wonderful response that I am now up to 15 baskets.
I have gotten 5 done but I want to get the rest done before I start any more trades. OKAY?

What have you got to trade. I haven't any plants but I make pine needle baskets. They are good for bartering with. Here is a sample of some that I have made. Of coarse the larger ones require more time and muscle so they would be for larger trades.

A small basket that would work for my granddaughter's designs for the iris show. She's 9 and can compet with the older kids, I don't know where she got the talent from none of us have it. : )). I have some hen and chicks too and I can get you a start of a plant I got in a trade called devils back bone. Thanks Susan

I would love to have some iris and mother-in-law tongue. I used to have a huge one but it was too large to move and ended up staying with the new owners. I don't care for the aloe or seeds. I am going to be doing a strawbale garden this year so I really don't plan on seeding too much mostly just using seedling plants from the feed store. I know. I should be doing my own but I want to try it this way this time. We have such a short growing season here.
What size basket and what would you want to use it for? That helps to determine size and shape. Each basket is different, no two alike but can design around your choices.

I would love to trade, I have

Phlox paniculata (lavender color)
Showy stonecrop (Live 4 Ever)
Surprises lilies

Small to medium or what ever size you want to make. She will use it for her mass design in the iris show and she's not very big if that helps. I also have some air plane plant plant the solid green and the varigated if you want I can send small starts of that too.

Susan505, I can make one with a diameter of about 8-9 ". That is pretty good size. It will probably take about a week to complete.

I live in Oregon so what do you have that would do well in this zone? I could always use more houseplants. Let me know and we can work out a trade. Boy, I think I may have to close this offer real soon. I have gotten so many offers. I guess this was a good bartering tool. I love baskets and I guess so do alot of others. Hehe.

I am surprized at the response that I have gotten and it is going to keep me busy weaving for a while. The size of the basket will depend on the trade. Oh my gosh, I put in the wrong pic. Yes that is my dear hubby. How funny. I can't belive no one else mentioned this. Here is the photo that was suppose to be there. That is some of my art work and how that photo of Greg got in to the collage is beyond me. I'm glad he had his clothes on. heheh. Not that I would take a picture of him without his clothes, I mean, oh, never mind. Heheh.

I am ROTHLOL. I can't believe I did that. Thank you and yes he is woven from a very fine cloth. A little rough on the outside but soft and cuddly on the inside.

HI, just lovely. What are the handles made of on the bottom two?
. I am not great with indoor plants. I do have a Thanksgiving to Christmas to Easter cactus that is still blooming. It lost many buds when I moved it to where other folks could see it. It is back in my bedroom and blooming its' head off with bright pink blooms over 2 1/2" long. I would also have a clivia plant. It is not quite old enough to bloom, but is not a seedling. The mature plant bloomed the regular deep orange.
For plant trades, I have various daylilies, my own seedling crosses (should have blooms in 1-2 years , as they have been grown in a dappled shade area. Iris of unknown colors. I moved all my bearded ones..ahem; left them for a time in the garage before replanting. They are all starting fans, but the snow (100") and squirrels took care of any tags that I had.
Do you have sun/shade..wet/dry.? Also, do you have special gardens (butterfly, themed, woodland etc.)
I have a wide variety of perennials hardy to zone 5. We have just started spring and the crocus are just this week in bloom..Woo Hoo. Just have a tiny pile of snow left in the driveway.

I would be very interested in your baskets, I love hand made things and it would fit right in with my house. I am also in the Pacific Northwest...for now...lol
I have many plants I can divide or have potted up starts in the greenhouse.
I have lambs ear, daylily, salvias, gaillardia, gladiola, dafodills, liatris, bee balm, hardy fuschia, centaurea montana, lavender, shasta daisy, japanese anemone (pink), sedum, iris, and many more. So many things grow here! You are in about the same zone as I am and I do not dig any of my plants and they come back faithfully. My purple and my white iris continue to grow bigger and bigger each year.
I have attached a picture, I grow many things...are you still open for trade...(fingers crossed).

No problem Susan, I have been very busy too making baskets like crazy. I have already made 5 with 10 more to go. Yours is # 9. I hope you don't mind waiting. It takes about three days to do each basket. Did you have any preferance as to what size and shape. Size depends on the trade and shape is up to you.

Okay, Thats great. I will just keep on weaving and try to get caught up. Pretty soon everyone will have one of my baskets. Thats kind of nice to think about. A little bit of me in so many homes. Hehe

ohhhh pretty pretty baskets!

i dont have a huge amount to trade with, but i do have alot of ajuga (great ground cover) i have the burgundy glow variety, large green leaf and a purple/green var. one. they grow well all you have to do is stick them in the ground and off they go! they get these blue or purple blooms, very cute. will also have some grasses ready in about 3 weeks...mex. feather grass, carex cappacino, and some sort of reed type grass that is really hardy and a good grower. will be starting some plants of a large group of hebes that i have, and some black night butterfly bush soon. interested in any?

What an amazing talent you have! I would LOVE to trade for a basket..... I have a very large perennial and tropical list....... Let me know what you are looking for and I'd be glad to come up with some things you'd like.

Shokami2, I am a great trader as I like anything and everything. You come up with what you want to trade and I will make you a basket.

The same goes for you datdog. I love tropicals and I throughly appreciate perrinials. I do get confused, now perrinials are the ones that you plant once and they keep coming back each year. Right? Annuals you have to plant each year.Right?
Now don't laugh. The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked. What is on your tropical list? Is it listed somewhere?
I am feverishly working on the baskets I am on #6 so I am catching up.
It is up to you when you send the plants. I won't forget you. Some that are way down the list have already sent some of theirs so I am more inclined to do their baskets before I do those that haven't sent the trade yet.

lol. i might do quite a bit trading with you over the year. these would make GREAT xmas gifts. how about i start you off with a first order of ajuga. send you a good chunk of each of the 3 kinds. they grow really well and very easy.

Great!!! Whats ajuga. HEhehe. Like I say I am an easy trade. We are 6 miles inland from Newport. My DH works in Newport. What do you mean, whats next? You can either wait to send them till I am closer to your basket or send them now. It is totally up to you. It may be two weeks before I am closer to being caught up. It all depends on my hands holding up.
I need to go into Newport to the craft wearhouse tomorrow to get some shells. Do you like any decorations on your baskets or do you like them plain. You decide.

Gourdbeader,

I'm looking for red beads such as showed up on the right hand basket in your photo. Ideally around 1/2". The idea is to hang them in cherry trees as decoys to train the birds that my cherries are not good to eat. Do you have a source, or possibly a supply to trade for plants? I know you temp closed this thread, but this question is a bit of a different topic, so I hope you don't mind.

lol......... ajuga is a great ground cover and really hardy. sent one pic of one of the varieties i have. a few scattered sea shells here and there on the basket would be nice! im not in any rush so take your time. it will probably be next week b4 i can send anything with this crazy weather were having..... it snowed then hailed, then snow then rained....... not good for the plant business. i also work at a wholesale nursery here intown... so this is not a good thing so late now :(

Yep, I woke up to snow this morning. What up with this??
I knew it was suppose to freeze but this is just crazy. I remember back in 1987 that we got this crazy storm that hit and they were making snowmen and cross country sking on the BEACH!!!! That storm lasted a couple of weeks. Our pipes froze, the little stream in front of our house became our washing water but we had to haul water in to drink and the plumbing, whew! that was a major nightmare. We had to use portapotties because we couldnt flush. I guess an outhouse would have done the trick but fortunatley we didn't have to do that.

kim, that first one is beautiful. where did you get it?

Krowten, I'm sorry, I just now noticed your posting. I think that those are just red pony beads. I you go on to a beading web site and look up pony beads you might be able to find them. My beads have been collected from hither and yon so I can't say where I got those. I will have to go and check and see if I can find out for you. I will get back to you on that.

I just went and looked and those were acutally a combination of different red beads. None were ponys. Some were old indian beads that I got in Tombstone from a bead store that unfortunately is no longer there. Go to an Indian beading site and you may be able to find nice wampam beads I think thats what they are called. Trade beads.

It seems we are now in the same growing zone. I could be known as THE plant hog of North Central Florida. Things are waking up and showing themselves. Although I get off track frequently, I have been trying to increase plants that are native and also those that are sun, heat and drought tolerant. I want to reduce days of watering. Oh yes, and I have a bunch of daylilies.

If and when you catch up and want some perennials to fill the gaps of trades already completed, let me know and I can make you a list and pick out a basket?
