Black Dogs are Most Difficult to Adopt Out?

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

I hadn't heard of this until now, but apparently Shelters & Rescue organizations find black colored dogs to be the most difficult ones to place in new homes. I was really surprised by that. There is a photographic book out which features black dogs - all proceeds go to the SPCA. I'm thinking that this might make a nice gift for my friends. Maybe others here would agree. Here is the description of the book:

Quoting:
Black is Beautiful: A Celebration of Dark Dogs
Celebrate Black Dogs and Support the SPCA/HS

If you have a black dog…or know someone who does…there's a new book
just for you. Black is Beautiful: A Celebration of Dark Dogs is a
photographic tribute to America's least appreciated canines by writer
and photographer Pam Townsend, who also volunteers with the
SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George's County, Inc.

A dog-lover since childhood, Townsend has lived with black dogs for 17
years…and counting. "Of course I've always thought my dogs were
beautiful, and it never occurred to me that other people wouldn't
think so," she says.

But as Townsend became interested in animal welfare issues, she
learned that black dogs are the hardest dogs for shelters and rescue
organizations to find homes for. So as a writer and photographer, she
decided to create a special tribute to black dogs. The resulting
8-inch-square, 72-page publication contains 34 photos of black dogs of
all shapes and sizes, along with words or phrases related to each image.

"My goal is to get people to look at black dogs differently…to
appreciate their attractiveness and diversity and to give more thought
to adopting a black dog if they're looking for a new fur friend," says
Townsend.
