How do you make a Sticky? A Hyperlink? Add a thread to your journal?
thanks
How to questions:
A sticky is something that only the admins can do, and it's not something you can do in your journal, it's only for forums. When there's a thread in a forum that people feel is particularly useful and they want it always at the top of the forum (rather than slipping down the page if nobody has posted recently which is what normally happens.) then they can ask admins to turn it into a sticky.
For hyperlinks the easiest thing to do is go to the page you want a link to, copy what's in the address bar of your browser, and then paste it into your journal entry or wherever else it was that you wanted the link.
I'm not sure what you mean by putting a thread in your journal...you can make entries, to do that you select the plant you want to make an entry for, then you should see a link that says something along the lines of "add an entry", then you can type in whatever you want. If you were meaning how do you put a link to a thread into your journal, then make a new entry and follow my instructions above for making hyperlinks.
So If I wnt to keep this page I go to the browser at the top of my computer page an copy and paste that? sorry, not too good with computers. i would also like to sticky my entry in cactus and succulents that asks that a number of plants be identified. Is that possible?
No, admins won't sticky your identification thread for you--they generally only make stickies when it's a thread that has long-term general interest and would be good for everyone who comes to that forum to read (like a thread that has a lot of info on how to care for cacti for example).
In your previous post you asked about making hyperlinks and stickies, but I think what you really are wanting to do is save pages so you can find them again later? If so, there are two ways to do that, I'll explain both of them and then you can pick which one you think would work better for you. The cutting and pasting part that I explained before is if you want to create a hyperlink somewhere but based on what you're saying here I don't think that's really what you want to do.
Option 1 is to bookmark the page in your browser. To do that, go to the page you want to bookmark, then in your browser menu way at the top of the page you'll see a menu that says "bookmarks" or "favorites" or something along those lines. If you click on that you'll see an option to save the page you're on in your favorites/bookmarks. Once you've saved it, then anytime you want to find it again, you go to that same favorites/bookmarks link on the menu, and it'll show you a list of all the pages you've saved there and you can go straight to the one you want. This favorite/bookmark feature will work for any website, not just DG.
Option 2 is to use the fairly new "tag" feature that Dave made a little while ago. It's a DG thing rather than a browser thing so it'll only work for pages on this site. Again you go to the page you want to save, then look near the upper right corner of the page and you'll see a little folder icon. Click on that and it'll take you to a page where you can enter tags (keywords). For example on your cactus ID thread, you might put in the tag "cactus identification". To find your tagged page again later, go to the "My Info" link just under the tabs at the top of the page, then if you look down the list of options you'll see one to view your tagged pages. This will bring up a list of all the pages you've tagged.
Thanks, I'll try the latter. i haven't had any luck with tags. I don't know whatI'm doing wrong.
