Daffodils: Part 2!

Peachtree City, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks claypa and gemini.
I am still getting suggestions for the most fragrant. Great to have personal growing experiences to learn from.

Dallas, GA(Zone 7b)

Chris, Kedron is my favorite for fragrance. Some others, such as Bridal Crown, are almost too intense, but I just love Kedron.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

True how some can be almost too fragrant. Some of the paperwhite forcing types are like that to me, kind of nice at first, but then starts reminding me of cat pee, LOL.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

The closest I found is an old one called Princeps, but the petals don't match. Other than that the way they tilt downwards, the height etc look very close, but it's an early one.

This site says "Narcissus Princeps This is one of the oldest cultivars pre 1830, and it is still given the specific title Narcissus gayi which perhaps indicates that it was originally a form selected from the wildEarly flowering with a clear yellow trumpet and cream petals the cut flowers were once harvested by the million. " I can see why they would be popular, such a shame they have replaced such beauties probably in the name of selling new varieties.

The two pics on the left on Daffseek do look like this one with the very left one showing yellow on the petals at the centre, the 'Comments' says the trumpet is paler at the base but I don't see it on their pics. The rest sounds like it.

I'm fairly convinced this is the one!

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

A mystery double, maybe 'Texas'.

bonitin - my WP Milner is in a very sunny spot - it's so delicate I thought it might be a bit tender. I've had is for a few years and it's thriving so maybe it's not as tender as it looks. I think yours looks very similar to mine. I like 'Dreamlight' - very pretty :-)

Janet - what a nice find! It's beautiful :-)

Claypa - 'Avalanche' is very nice - so many flowers! :-)

Anyone have an idea what this one might be? I thought it was Flower Record but it doesn't match the photos in PlantFiles.

rannveig, that one looks different from my Flower Record too, but does look very similar to one I have called 'Sound'. So pretty and bright!

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Picture taken yesterday evening in my yard. Beautiful and so delicate.

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Thanks Rannveig, I hope mine will return after their first year, I really like them and they stay nice for so long..
Chris, Narcissus poeticus also has a nice frangrance.
Claypa, your 'Avalanche' is very similar in form like mine I think is N.'Dove Wings', only that the outer petals are white with yours, they are pretty!

Beahive yours remind me of N.'Spellbinder'

That's a gentle looking 'mystery double', Claypa!

Wallaby, your find reminds me very much of my find on the land of that very old abandoned farm of which I thought it could be Narcissus subsp.pseudonarcissus;
I'm not sure if I haven't posted this pic. of one of them before, but here it is just to compare;

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Great pictures everyone. Traci any idea what yours is called?
Aggie thank you for asking that question about your Daff's facing the wrong way. I have quite a few that are facing with their backs towards me. I tmakes it very difficult to get a good picture!!

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

more pretty daffs

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Yes it is very similar bonitin, and we did think yours looked much like N. gayi too, Princeps is thought to be from N. gayi. I can see from the side view the petals on yours stand out flatter while mine droop, and the trumpet on yours is straight until the frilly mouth. The trumpet on mine flares slightly, being quite narrow at the top end.

I took a side view.

BeaHive - they're both so pretty :-)

Thanks Neil - The cup color on mine is actually the reverse of Song - it's orange with a yellow trim on the edge. I've been going through what I've purchased in the past few years and I can't find anything that matches that one ........ I suspect it must have been mislabeled.

I have a couple NOIDs too. I think, but am not sure that this one might be Yellow Moon. At least that is what it looks like to me at this link. http://www.daffodilusa.org/daffseek.html

For some reason I can not seem to post a picture of the second one. There is a picture of it in a thread I started called Please help to Identify these Daffodils ( or something like that)

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

I don't know the names of any of mine. I just bought a big batch of "narcissus for naturalizing" from White Flower Farm last fall, and am enjoying the show this year. I look forward to when they multiply and fill in a little though. I followed the planting directions, and they seem a bit sparse.

Here are some of my babies:

Wish we could put multiple pictures in a single post. Here are some more favorites.

Such an interesting collection of different daffodil blooms in this thread! So many subtle and not so subtle differences in each flower!

Before I started on Dave's Garden I thought almost all daffs were just the yellow or white trumpets and a few white 'narcissi' once in a while. So it's so fun to see all these varieties!

Here is the second wave of daffs in the bird bath garden...this week daffodil 'accent' is blooming.

I've been offline for a week and suffering DG-withdrawl big time!

T - that bird bath scene is very pretty. I can tell someone has everything all
nice and tidy already. :-)

I took a bunch of pictures of my daff's - most are NOIDs.

Here's the hillside I planted the daff's into the grass.

My daffodils & tulips are preparing for the cold snap this weekend. Worried that this may be it for them this season, their "official garden fairy"
snapped lots a farewell pictures tonight..just in case! We are hoping they be around for a few more weeks...

Bea - those are really lovely photo's. Looks like quite a display you
have. I hope the frost skips you and those pretties.

BeaHive, your first one could be Oryx, is it a Jonquilla with more than one flower per head? The colours seem to vary but apart from that it looks the same. It has an RHS AGM award, which means it's a good garden variety.

Tammy, love that Fortissimo, mine didn't grow this year, ;~( I put it in the ground, should have left it in the pot.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

I will need to look through my invoices and try to match up what I planted this year. Did not have the forsight to do it before I planted a zillion bulbs! Live and learn as the saying goes!! It does look most like the oryx.
Will let you know if i can figure all this out. Thanks

Keene, NH(Zone 5a)

beahive- wow- what a colorful grouping of daffs and tulips! you sure did plant a zillion bulbs! i'm always so impressed by people who dare to plant so many- I realize i'm so timid... sarah

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Tammy, your hill looks lovelier every year!

I've finally taken time to get some pics. The show has been wonderful this year.
