Kim
Would help you buy more priceless plants LOL.
Couldn't agree more....lol,lol.
Kim-
Girl, you got the 'gift' --- beautiful flowers. Hmmmm, now y'all got me thinking about trying POB from seeds, next year! This year is the "Year of the Brug(s)" and, of course, my EE's and Cannas. Your talent in growing tropicals is amazing!!!
Your northener gardening friend! Jan
Christi-
your mention of a friend who scarifies her hard-shelled seeds in the blender reminded me of a story of a guy that works in the office. His wife blended some special concoction for a sick birdie they had and he thought it was for him and he started drinking it. She didn't know that he drank it until after the fact when he mentioned that it tasted pretty nasty...he didn't feel too well that morning...LMBO!!!

Kim, any seeds yet on your POB???
No, there was no seed formed on this particular one. I tried to pollinate them but couldn't make out which is the anthers and stigmas. lol.
Kim
I hear you on that one!!!!! hahahahahaha

I wanted to pass this observation along on the POB's..
I decided to go through the neighborhood and check out all the pride of barbados, where they were located and soil conditions. One thing that stuck out pretty obviously was that they ALL had a large amount of shade...now..that is not to say that they don't like full sun, but here where it's Texas sun hot, it might play a roll. So in response, I took the one I had planted in a pot, and put it in a half day shade. Did you guess? it's starting to bloom! Is it the shade..hmmmmm...will need more entries...anyone want to try it?

Congratulations! Success at last.
Do you ever try the Cassia (Senna) group, they are good in containers? In Austin & San Antonio this one is popular http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/371/ it comes back from the roots, usually.
Below is pictured Senna didymobotrya, it is very frost tender. We got a light frost in Jan for 2 hours and mine died. Good thing I saved seeds. Here in FL it will bloom twice a year, spring and fall.
I tried growing that one a couple of years ago..but no luck...course I had too many "trying to grows" at that time.
The other cassia, candle stick grows well here...but haven't tried it in pots as they survive year around.
I am delighted to hear your POB observation. Mine is young and I had planted it in a bright shade location. It seems to be growing and thriving but hasn't shared a bloom yet. I had contemplated relocating it but will let it stay for now. Thanks! pod
hmm, interesting........my best POB(orange) is in full sun, it's only a few inches tall but growing well in a 3 inch pot that was only half full of soil till I added a bit more soil the otherday..........I noticed myself that they like to be potbound and neglected somewhat.
Here in Canada I've found the pink POB is more difficult to grow then the orange one.

Summer temperatures can definitely make a difference on how much sun something can handle--I'm not at all surprised that they can take full sun in Canada but do better with a bit of shade in Texas.
