i doubt it, but it really depends... but most hatcheries have a list and then prices to go with it. it says "pullets, straigth run" or "sexed, straight run". so if they offer them sexed and it is a true breed, not a sex link cross then they are feather sexed. Buckeyes are not feather sexable. but the cockerels taste delightful! Leghorns are. and most places offer a 90% accuracy guarantee. so expect some cockerels either way!
Leghorn cock, big comb?
So if they offer them straight run And pullet/males then they can be feather sexed? In that case I might be able to do my New Hampshires and Buff Orpingtons since both those were offered that way. My Delawares are all males. All I could get then :-(

I think they just say if they are sexed or not--not how they do the sexing. Sex-linked are usually based on color differences--but I guess they could be based on feather length. But for most chickens I am afraid they do the vent-sexing--like on "Dirty Jobs":0(
ugh! I'll wait till they're crowing or laying eggs rather than do that!

Me too, Molly. Don't really matter to me as young roos are tasty.

http://www.catoire-fantasque.be/Basse-cour/poule_sexage.php I found this when I was looking for info about sexing marans. Granted it not for all chicks but it may help some.
Interesting page LoraK.
