Tiny Digitalis

Gray, ME

Does anyone know of a site that shows pictures of newly germinated seeds when they have developed their first true leaves. The resaon I would like to find such a site is that I have very very tiny plants that I thought were digitalis. They are such large plants that I find it hard to believe that their seedlings would remains so little once they develop their true leaves. They look very healthy so I wonder if maybe I have mislabled them????

For common plants like Digitalis, Plant Files will often have pics of seedlings. Here's one of Digitalis http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/15195/ Seedlings often don't look a lot like the grown-up version, small seedlings can grow into big trees, and sometimes the leaf shape changes as things get older.

The seedlings are tiny I have some now that germinated around the first of March and just transplanted them a couple of days ago and they were only an inch tall. Most of your perennials will take a while to grow they aren't like annuals they have such a short life span they grow faster.

I'm with LeBug. I've grown a lot of digitalis and the seedlings are always tiny. The seeds themselves are tiny, so it makes sense.

Just took this pic yesterday of my digitalis seedlings, the ones on the left are Pam's Choice and the ones on the right are Milk Chocolate.
They are very tiny.

Thanks everyone. What you say makes sense and they do look just like the pics on the hyperlink. I was amazed and now I can sleep much better knowing my little critters are who they are supposed to be. I will have to thin them down soon and that will raise a whole new horror for me. The germination rate was excellent and now I will have to part with about 3/4 of them. I just don't have enough room to pot them all.

Slugstomper, do you know about the different colors germinating at different times? This is on most annuals and biennials, but I cannot categorically say it is on ALL of them. If you want a variety of colors, thin some of the big ones, med ones and small ones out, don't just choose to thin the small ones.

Interesting about the germination times of the different colors. I didn't know about that...

My digitalis are tiny too. And a million of them germinated--I'm happy about that!

I tried growing them from seed for the first time, and a ton of them germinated, but then they don't seem to have grown at all in the past month... they're still tiny with just 2 leaves. Is that normal?
