These started swarming out from under the sill of my front door.
I know there are small differences between the Ant and termite.
I have a few more pictures of them that I will crop if needed. Also have one of a Larva stage that crawled out at the same time.
Does anyone know for pretty sure one way or other at first glance?
Thanks
chris
CLOSED: Termite or Ant?
Those look an awful lot like termites to me, especially the larva. This website has suggestions for general ID of ants and termites. http://citybugs.tamu.edu/FastSheets/Ent-1006.html I can't tell from the picture if the adults have the pinched abdomen or not but the larva definitely doesn't look segmented. And after looking at this website: http://www.ent.orst.edu/urban/termites.html I'm not even sure if that is a larva; it could be a worker termite. Maybe a cropped picture of one of the adults would help.
hmmm, sorry to say, I'm still sticking with termites :(
Crud!
Time to call the termite guys. I have a re-treat and repair bond, so it wont cost me anything, but just the thought kinda makes my stomach turn.
Thanks,
chris
Chris you might want to let the neighbors know so they can check their homes too
Good idea!
The houses were all built 9 years ago and they all came with termite bonds. The company comes every 3 months to check the trap things in the ground. Most of us have had some kind of activity at 1 time or another. I just really dont like that they are under the sill of my front door. I will mention it to others to keep an eye out.
