Lazlos' Morning Glory

Melbourne, FL

Last year Lazlo offered Morning Glory seed he gathered in Texas to some members here. My first flower opened today while I was at work....but it was still open at 6pm when I got home! That's my kind of Morning Glory! Thanks again Lazlo!

Wow, those are really nice flowers.. I got some seeds from lazlo and haven't started them, I'll do those soon too.

How long ago did you plant them if you don't mind me asking?

I got a rooted cutting from a friend last month, so I'm hoping it is the same kind.

What a lovely morning glory.

I planted them right after receiving them, would have to go back and find his original thread to know for sure. I brought them inside during the winter when it got too cold. These need to go into the ground some where, they are already potbound, but I'm not sure where they can go. The flower was still open this morning, 24 hours later.

Were the seeds you are growing from his MG bush? I planted one a while back, but I think I need to fertilize it as it is pretty small still.

They were some he salvaged from a bush he found growing somewhere. I think the property was being demolished and he quickly gathered some seeds. It is certainly a bush form, very sturdy stems.

Very, very nice! I really like yours! I hope mine gets much bigger. It survived the cold temps twice and seems to be very sturdy. I have mine in the ground. Just the one plant and I noticed today that it is growing more shoots from the base of the trunk, so maybe it is getting bigger and bushier. Thanks for posting your photos! Now I know what to expect from mine! :-) All good!!!

Luck and so SOON in the season....I will sometimes get all-day glories uin the fall when it cools down to the 70s again. My vines lose a lot of their Flower Power (wink) in midsummer when it is SO hot. Congeats thats a pretty great one! How big across was it?

I kept meaning to measure it, but I would estimate it was 4-5" across. A third is open this morning and the 2nd from yesterday is still open at this time.

The plants were too large for the pots so I finally had to put them in the ground. Really no good place for more vines, so I bought a trellis and stuck it in the back bed. It's near a bird feeder so it's getting all messed up now, but seems happy.

It is beautiful.. wow, be sure to save seeds, good trading stock..lol

My cutting doesn't look too good, but I'm hoping it comes back.

This is one I WILL save seeds from. If I get some I'll be glad to share.

Here is a pic from today. I notice something has been eating some of the seedpods, but hopefully I will still get some seeds for sharing. This plant has reached to top of the trellis, which is about 6 feet.

gardenpom - Is this the MG tree? 6' tall! WOW! That's pretty good if this is the tree cultivar! Beautiful blooms, too! I have one that is just poking along. Probably my lousy soil is to hard for the roots to spread very far. I need to amend my garden beds in certain areas, but just never seem to have enough time to do it. It will probably be a winter project this year to do that!

It sure looks like the MG tree posted on another thread. It has thick and sturdy stems.

Here is a pic of the entire plant in the back bed.

Gardenpom, I really like the color of this one, lilac to lavender. Mine
is the more common pink.
