Madame Pele is really upset

LOL, Keonikale - you are so right! It can be a challenge to pick up and move to islands that are the most remote in the world. That is the reason we chose Maui. Although I would love to live in Carol's area, or in Hana on our island, we didn't have the skills required to earn a living in those lush tropical forests, although they would have been my first choice. Life IS somewhat different here - locally known as "Maui time". After a few years you somehow settle in and accept it for the way it is!

Every morning when I get up and sit on the lanai and look out toward the sea or the mountains, or see my husband go for his before work morning swim, I am a happy camper. To be happy living here you do have to change your mind set from the mainland mind set! We gave up a successful business and a beautiful home to move here, and we are so very glad we did. More and more as we get older, Frank and I come to the realization that life is so very short and the "things" for us were just not worth it! We are so happy to be out of the rat race we were living.

I will tell you that we have met some of the most nicest people here, and the Aloha spirit is alive, and is lived on a daily basis. Hope I haven't bored you all "talking story"!

Madam Pele rules supreme on these islands, and she always has her way...

LOL Christi, we posted at the same time! I have never lived in any place that it hasn't been wonderful for one reason or another...
Your Dad was a wise man, I have seen other posts where you have quoted him...

Oh sweet Jenny. The entire experience of Maui has changed my life. I love the "Maui time". How is your fence coming? hahahaha

So everyone knows, we had a septic tank put in and they excavated tons of lava in the process. I have had the "old fellas" make me a higher lava rock wall along the front of my house in order to get rid of it. (we did check with Madam Pele before repositioning her lava!) Christi, as usual we are going along very slowly! The longer wall is finally finished, but the mailbox side is only half done! The guys have gone somewhere on another job, don't know when they will be back to finish the job - Maui time, I expect!

Off to work, everyone have a lovely day - becareful of those backs!

Totally second what Jen said. My favorite saying is "Slow down, you aren't on the Mainland'. It is a very different mind set - and it takes a lot of people a long time to get there. For us...it took about 35 seconds!!!

Aloha everyone! Jenny - very few are as remote as I am. At least you guys have all the modern conveniences! There are quite a few that we are lacking! Ha Ha...but as you say, it is truly paradise to be out of the rat race.

Been having computer problems, and have been waaay busy away from home, so please pardon my absence. I love you all no less.

Yokwe to all, and especially to the island "adoptee" Princess Kilikina.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Thinking that if Mike and I gave away or sold every stinkin' thing we could go to one of the islands for at least 2 months. Surely we could get a job mopping floors or mowing yards, or planting something.

Hele me hoohiwahiwa Malika's ho`omaha loa.

Mahalo nui loa na ho`olaula`a me la kaua

E hele mai ana au Maui.

We are fine down here....but up nearer the Volcano residents have been advised to evacuate. The winds switched to SW...and we had bad vog this morning but it is OK now. Trade Winds should kick in on Thursday which blows it all over to the 'other' side.

Keep us informed, Carol. Want you to be safe above all other concerns.

Oh, Carol. Stay safe. Our hearts are with you. Please keep us informed.

Gail and I are sailing Saturday for that Grand Voyage we have been contemplating since last September: 20 days, 3 continents, 9 ports of call in a wheelchair-accessible cabin featuring a double balcony. We are both very excited. I will be bringing my laptop computer with me. I'll be able to connect to the internet and send out pictures, etc.

I have created a thread so you can follow this much anticipated adventure along with us .

See you there.

Newspaper has dire warnings about Madame Pele today. What is your situation, Carol? Good, I am hoping.

Haven't put on the news yet this morning Carol, hope all is okay. Last night they said that the trades WERE going to kick in today. We got some of the vog too and we are over 100 miles from you, must have been awful in your area...
Let us know how you are getting on.

Big rains last ight (3") and thunderstorms so I had one of the dogs in my bed (Louise of course)....haven't seen the V.Monitor yet this morning but the air quality is a lot better!!! A fellow from Waimea is coming down to see our gardens so I can find out more about how it affected them up north!

No worries out there...we are fine.... Exciting times! The national park is closed.

Carol
