Springtime Weeds & Wildflowers... Care to share?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

I love this time of year. Always seem to see new and different blooms. Some I can identify, some are still wearing a big ?

Do you have any you would: Care to share or have IDd? Learn to multiply or erradicate?

This vine was pulled out of a tree top. Guess I assumed it was Carolina jessamine. What a surprise to see these blooms on ground level.

Bignonia capreolata ~ Cross-Vine

This is the "year of the thistle" One to erradicate. I know they serve a purpose but I haven't figured out what! Wicked stickers.

Every where I look thistles are blooming. With all these blooms, next year will be worse. Out in the woods on a creek bottom, it is full the these!

Cleavers ~ a springtime plague at my house.

This gorgeous plant resembles a wild carrot. I am researching for an ID.

Here's the weed I get tons of...if you don't pull them they will take over your entire yard (almost did last year).

Corn Speedwell

Also, get lots of henbit...but these aren't too bad as they're extremely easy to pull.

Aha! Someone else that takes photos of WEEDS! LOL Keep them coming please.... pod

Dh mowed most of the weeds so the kids wouldn't get lost Easter egg hunting, lol. I'm going for my morning pasture walk..will see what I can find.

Those kind of carrot family plants should only be ID'd when they're seeding or in seed...this according to a plant expert more knowledgeable than me. One that I pull up a lot of is Beggar's Ticks, Torilis arvensis....not seeding now, but I know what I'm pulling up because that's the only one like that in my yard.

Here's a nice wildflower....Dakota Vervain or Prairie Verbena.

What a mess this area is, guess it's a case of letting this area get too weedy because it's kind of where I don't see it much....the long out-of-focus plant is a Venus's Looking Glass, which will shortly have purple flowers. I think the fern-looking thing is a wild form of dill...on rare occasion I see Black Swallowtail caterpillars on those. At the bottom right is a wild form of parsley called Daucosma, which grows tall and flowers (clusters of tiny white flowers) in summertime, also hosting the same kind of caterpillar. Somewhere there on the left is something I actually planted there....a salvia, I think, but memory fails on what kind.

This is one of the vetches...I believe it's Deer Pea Vetch...viny weed that is invasive, little pale purple flowers later on. If it goes to seed, it'll be back...all over!
Just noticed...that's Texas Thistle on the bottom left...I let a few grow in the yard...I like them as long as they don't get too numerous!

I found the remnants of a fungus that's cool looking. Each "cup" is about the size of an orange.

Hurray for Pod!! Thank you for appreciating weeds.
Hope you don't mind me posting this.
It's Carolina Jessamine that's truly a weed here! When they're in bloom, you'll know soon the pine would be dropping their pollen...watch out sinus!

Okay, for the winner of who can guess this yellow loner is, I'll dig it up and send it to you free. Lol!
Lovely wild violets surround it. I thought it was wild ginger, until Tropicanna corrected me!

cocoa_lulu, that's not it. Deer Pea Vetch has tiny pea-like blooms. I can't even show them in a photo with my camera's capability, that's how small they are. Not sure what that is you have.

Hey Jaye ~ glad to see another weed-ophile join us. I love the Carolina jessamine ~ it is not just beautiful but fragrant! Do you know what that yellow bloom is? I would be scared to guess a dandelion for fear I would be wrong ~ LOL

Cocoa ~ your yellow NOIDs are unknown here ~ any clue? They are a bright spot.

I do like the weeds & wildflowers more and know less about them.

Violets here too ~ I won't ask who doesn't like them. I'm sure they can be a plague for some but I am always cheered by them!

This is a closeup shot of my LEAST favorite plant. I see no purpose in the grand scheme of things for this buddy! Any guesses?

A clue, it keeps me from going barefoot right about the time the weather turns nice. We call it Burr grass. I hate the stickers!

Another yellow bloom ~ common but I have no IDea... It is growing amongst the Cleavers.

Pod, yes, it is the lowly dandelion! Beauty ain't she? I call it a poor cousin of the Gerber daisy.
Can anyone tell me what this is? The colour softer than the wild violets, and the leaves are serrated like. Kel's happy that he didn't have to mow the grass till much later. Moreover, they're food for the travelling bees and the rare butterflies.

Pod...I have no idea about half the things I come across...but I love them just the same.
Heavenscape, those are field pansies. They are so sweet. The color on them fades fast, if you find them earlier in the morning they are darker.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh goodie Cocoa!! Thank you. Why do I get so excited over these 'weeds' name? They might be weeds, but they're loved weeds..or field pansies!!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Field pansies... I love it!

These are a favorite ~ Sisyrinchium ~ I believe the common name is blue eyed grass.

This one is pretty common but pretty... Lyre leaf sage

Guess I could have snagged a better photo...

Keep them coming....I love learning their names.

The wildflowers took a beating this past Sunday with 12 to 19 inches of rain in less than 8 hours here.

I am not sure of the ID on this cheerful bloom. The leaves look suspiciously like a sumac?

Thumbnail by podster
Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Even the cheery Phlox look battered. They aren't as fragrant as normal either...

Thumbnail by podster

your noid looks a lot like a buckeye too

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Does anyone know the name of the weed that when you grab it, it stings you? I've been encountering them this year in my beds and they hurt like crazy!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Buckeye? Really... I will need to check it out. Not familiar with that one... thanks!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Bull nettles maybe? The leaves have a fuzzy look?
