I am not much into scarey movies.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

sallyg that movie was "Wait Until Dark."

(Zone 7a)

You have finally hit on the one thing for which I can give EXCELLENT choices!!! LOL

Wait Until Dark is the Audrey Hepburn movie.

Here's my list of best horror...

Event Horizon (psychologically scary)
Alien (just plain creepy)
The Haunting (original- I still have nightmares)
The Devil's Backbone (Spanish-but VERY creepy...)
House On Haunted Hill (a classic still)
Both Resident Evil (zombies and other things)
The Ring (Ringu in Japan, which I think was better than the American made)
The Eye (originally made in China, there is a new one from America-not as well made)
Poltergiest (who can forget the famous line?)

There are many, many more to come. I have research to do...

Poltergiest..."Theeeeeey're heeeeere."

Hammond, LA(Zone 8b)

"I am Legend" was excellent and had zombie-ish creatures. "Invasion" was decent. Kind of gross but there are no creatures.

The new "Dawn of the Dead" was pretty good; I don't like the old school zombie movies.

Check out Don't Look Now.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

One of the scariest movies I have ever seen was a TV movie--long, long time ago. It was called "See no Evil". If I am correct--it starred John Cassavettes. It had to do with him and his fiance buying an antique mirror, on a whim, in an antique shop. Already, on their way home, he looked in his side mirror and the devil's face was staring back at him...
He put the mirror in the girl's bedroom. it was one of those floor-model. big, oval mirrors that sat in a frame and could be tilted.

Basically, this mirror had some unreal power over the girl and she would get up at night and go look in the mirror and see weird things. These nightly things escalated, and she became obsessed with the mirror--and eventually, the mirror would draw her into itself and she would be, like, under the Devil's power. You could see her inside the mirror doing stuff...
Since she could never sleep, she got tireder and weaker and had absolutely no power to refuse the demons in the mirror. On the night before her wedding, she had her bridal gown all laid out on the bed and when night fell, she put it on and was sucked into the mirror...I think she was about to marry the demon when (I am not sure) but the man came in, saw her in there and threw something at the mirror and broke it. She came tumbling out and want unconscious.

I don't remember exactly how her fiance realized what was going on, but he tried to save her and also to destroy the demon in the mirror. In the end he succeeded by setting up several mirrors all reflecting into each other to infinity and the Demon could not (i guess...) decide where to escape to or from. I remember the mirrors all buckling and cracking......
Believe me--it was a very scary movie........Wish I could see it again! I love horror films.

I have gone to rental places and they have checked and it is not on the books. There is another movie by the same name, but it is not the one i saw....I also do not know what year this was, but I know I was already married (1963). So--maybe early 70's?

Gita, I remember seeing that one. VERY creepy!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

kwanjin,

Thanks for also remembering! I thought i was the only one! Do you remember anything different than I posted? Anything more? Was it John Cassavettes? Help me find this film!
Do you know if one could actually buy a TV film anywhere? I am NOT even sure it was a "made for TV" film. It could have been a real movie......Getting obsessed here....:o)

jlp,
I quickly checked out the site you linked to. Didn't really see anything for this particular movie. Don't have time now to do it mote thoroughly--will try again later.

Gita

(Zone 7a)

NOT the only one, Gita. I used to watch those movies like I was going to DIE if I didn't!!! LOL

I sent your synopsis to my brother. He'll be able to help us find it. (I hope.)

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Lots of great movies guys, lol. Im adding them to our netflix as yall post heheh.

Hammond, LA(Zone 8b)

Here is the imdb page for all of the movies John Cassavettes has been in:

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

jlp---

I don't see "See no Evil" on the list! Oh well.......It must have been someone else that looked like him--or that type of a look-----leery, mysterious, dark......I think horror movies were his forte!
I am 100% sure of the name of the movie!

Thanks, though! Gita

Hammond, LA(Zone 8b)

I looked too. It wasn't "the Devil's Angels" was it? That was the only thing I saw that was close. I dunno, IMDB is usually pretty accurate. I'll see what else I can find ;)

(Zone 7a)

I think the movie was called Dark Mirror and Jane Seymour was in it. Does that sound right?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

kwan,

No! That does not ring the bell. I'll stick to "See no Evil".....

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

kwan,

No! That does not ring the bell. I'll stick to "See no Evil".....
I am not just NOW remembering it--I always knew that was the title...

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

See No Evil (1971)

Blinded after a horseback-riding spill, Sarah (Mia Farrow) once again encounters darkness in a different, more menacing form. Returning to her aunt's home where she's convalescing, she's overwhelmed by the feeling that all's not right … and it isn't. Fact is, things have gone terribly, murderously wrong. Director Richard Fleischer's vision emphasizes the creepy ambience of the story and makes the ending all the more powerful.

Thsi one? :-D

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

No! it is not the one! The year seems right, though....Can you dig up a more detailed description of this movie? Where did you get the above description?

The one I am talking about centered all on this possessed mirror....your synopsis does not mention that.....Maybe that is what "wasn't feeling right".....NO murder in the one I am thinking about......I don't know who played the woman.....
I DO remember Mia F. in Rosemarie's Baby. She was good at playing these vulnerable, pale, naiive women.

Now we are ALL obsessing.....
I believe it was a made for TV movie.....and as such, may not be in any cinema archives.
After I saw it the first time, I SOOOO wanted to see it again! I kept checking the TV schedule. and once--a couple of years later--there it was----playing in the late, late, late show--starting at 1AM. NO! I did not stay up to watch it...shoulda--coulda--woulda....:o(

Thanks--I KNOW someone out there will remember! kwanjin said SHE did!!!! Now--those of us who remember seeing it have to band together and solve this mystery......

WHERE ARE YOU ALL??????????????

Gita

Hammond, LA(Zone 8b)

The Mist was. . . .well, I have mixed feelings about it. The characters were likable and diverse (It is based on a Stephen King novella). The "monsters" were creepy and a new idea. Thomas Jane is "the hotness" ; )
It wasn't a bad movie, but I did not like the end.
I guess this isn't a very good review since I am so on the fence about it.

The movie "Solstice" on the other hand, I'm not on the fence about. It was horrible. I managed to keep up with it while clipping coupons and reading Marie Claire. Horrible. I only rented it because I like to see movies that are supposed to be in Louisiana (House of Wax, Venom, The Skeleton Key). It was just horrible.

(Zone 7a)

Hmmm...I have to think on this some more. And my brother isn't answering my question about it. I remember the mirror, I remember the guy looking into it and I remember getting scared of the face in the mirror. Hmmm...

(Zone 7a)

Found it!!! Fear No Evil...

http://imdb.com/title/tt0064319/plotsummary

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Kwanjin,

WOW! You are a doll! Sorry I had the first word wrong.....Well--2 out of 3 isn't bad....:o)

Now what? Was it a TV movie? Was it a real movie? This site--is there any additional information on it? Who played the leading roles? Questions...questions.....

Thank you! Gita

(Zone 7a)

Let me grab my book. BRB

(Zone 7a)

Here's what Wikipedia says...

"Fear No Evil is a (1969) made for television movie. It and Ritual of Evil (1970) are both unsold pilots for a proposed television series which would have been called Bedeviled. Both starred Louis Jourdan as David Sorrell, a psychologist and authority on the occult who became involved in supernatural investigations. Wilfrid Hyde-White appeared in both films as Sorrell's mentor, Harry Snowden.

Fear No Evil was based on a short story by Guy Endore, an author best known for his novel The Werewolf of Paris."
