It sure is. You had me going out yesterday afternoon checkin' mine out. Just moved it last fall so probably not this year. Good for you, Sylvia.

My hostas are doing great. Still in your pots.

My plant has been in its new location a little over a year. I think its the water it guzzles.

Christi you might consider putting those Hostas in the ground come Fall. Next Spring you will have a much larger plant. What are the names of them?

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know. You gave them to me at Waxahachie and they didn't have a name on them. hahahaha

Take pictures for me please, so I can look them up. Its important that you retain the name of your Hosta. Who knows ... if you do good ... you might get another;)

You, sweetie. I'll do that very thing tomorrow.

Christi, you do want to know the names of those hostas! Because, you see, we already know that you will get addicted. And you will want to order more. And Sylvia is just the person to order them from. :) But if you don't know what you already have, then you won't know what to order!

Seriously. The first year I planted hostas, I bought 6. At that point I was just landscaping and didn't care about names, so I threw the tags away. Then we had a very mild winter and they didn't get their chill hours. And since I had planted them late in the season, they weren't established, and they didn't come back the next year. So now all I have is pictures of hostas that I really loved. I'd like to replace them, but I have no idea what they were. :(

I noticed as I passed the fish pond that there IS a tag in one of them. They appear the same so that would answer the question. By the time I got through watering everything I forgot to go back and get the tag. I was going to apologize to Sylvia. She is so precise. I'm the one you can't depend on. Can't remember anything 10 minutes apart. I most definitely will get it tomorrow.

BTW, I didn't know they needed a chill time. I always thought it was the cold that killed them. I have so much to learn...and have spread my interests so thin. I want to learn it all at one time.

Yeah, hostas are one of the things that--in our climate--you don't have to worry about them freezing out on you. They worry about that up north where they get ten feet of snow.

Nobody seems very precise about the exact chill requirements, as far as I can tell. There are some varieties that don't need a much cold as others. But in general, they need something like 35-40 days under 40 degrees. We get that much cold most years. I just happened to plant my first ones in one of the few years we didn't.

There's a whole thread over on the hosta forum about the ones that do best down here. I don't have the link handy, but it's listed in the sticky at the top of the forum.

I'll catch it tomorrow. Time to turn in. Started this day early and haven't slowed down. Tomorrow will just as busy.

Nighty night.

Christi
