Debra,
My Snowbank doesn't get any direct sunlight at all. It gets very bright shade. When I first got it, I gave it morning sun and afternoon shade. All the white on the leaves turned a dried brown. I started gining less and less direct sunlight until it ended up in my shade house. My shade house cuts out 30% of the sunlight. No more browned edges.
You didn't say what its symptoms were. Whether you have it in the sun and how much sun it gets. You're at a higher latitude than I am so your Snowbank may be able to take some early, early morning sun. Also check the humidity levels near it. Mine seems to be more sensitive to low atmospheric humidity.
I'm back
This is a very clever idea! I never thought about growing them this way.
Betty it is in the northwest corner where the vines and tree is,, it is in the ground in a new bed, and I bet the pplastic liner keeps it too wet.. It has no discoloration, no sunburn leaves, it just isn't growing the way the others are here..
this is from july 5th, things have been clipped around it and some things moved even since this picture was taken..
Are you using a solid plastic liner or one that allows water and air in? Also remember that Snowbank is a slow grower because it dosen't have that much chlorophyll. It also has a lot of competition for fertilizer and root space. How often do you fertilize it?
the liner is a garden mat type with holes for water and air, and soil and mulch on top of it.. everthing else is going great guns in that new flower bed, but I might need to feed it more.. that corner has five seedlings of different crosses I planted from seeds this winter.. ( From dg'rs) and they seem to be doing fine.. I am wondering if the burmuda grass is choking it from next door under the liner , guess I will dig it up and check it out.. thanks so much.. Debra
I wonder if varigated plants grow slower due to less green which makes the food... just a thought. And not very well expressed into words either. LOL
You are right, yardqueen. Snowbank, with very large white patches, is the slowest variegated Brug I have. I think it's a bit slower than Miner's Claim.
Well, well.........I have 2-24 inch hanging baskets. Unfortunately, the brugs I have do not "droop"..........any suggestions? I have your basic peach colored one (NOID), a couple Creamsickle, Sexy Lady, Susanne, and one I grew from a seed that was Monika's.
Mine do not droop either...is that a special variety? I have a lot of cuttings but they all look upright.
No Brug will droop, as you say, until it has Y'd. Then most will stop growing strait up and branch out more but that does not mean it will be a good Brug for a basket. I take lots of cutting in the Fall and whatever Brug cutting that is above the Y, that I can get to bloom in a 4" pot, when it's still small, usually makes a good basket plant. The best I have found is Orange Sunshine and then Chrissy, KBS, and I think Tootsie would make a good one.
This was two pots of KBS;
Does anyone have an orange sunshine for sale? I would love to have one or two?
Thanks
LK
