a BLUE JAY

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

hah. "goofermint "

Okay, we better stop this now as political stuff is a no-no on Dave's Garden.

Though I DO appreciate the silly play on words.

Confirmed and corrected from numerous sources. The pretty little blue birds are "Steller's Jays". Just one of those things, relying on a friend's spelling until somebody mentions how the proper noun is actually spelled. Thanks Resin for bringing that to my attention.

well the are indeed stellar Stellers.

I just learned from Pelle that canada geese were not canadian geese. :D

Crescent City, CA

thought I would add a couple of more pictures of the steller or stellar jay.
Can you post more than 1 photo at a time or does each one have to ba a seperate post?

unfortunately a separate post… However, some have been using different programs to combine images into a single image.

BTW, lovely picture.

yes, I did not know until now that they had the little blue on the forehead. Jack, looks like you have the placement perfect for this bird!!

I want Steller's Jays!!!!! No matter how it's spelled, they are Gorgeous!

Jack, Adel & BG, Are there any WWII airplanes around your area that I could talk BF into going to look at while I look for Steller's?? lol

Crescent City, CA

I don't know of any, we just have only one small airport here, but I will ask around and see if there are any up or down the coas or maybe a bit inland.

jacko...did you take these with the game camera? They are great...I love those birds and sure don't remember seeing them all the years I lived in Cal.

Sorry for the delay in answering, been a little under the weather.
I was using my MINOLTA dimage Z1
It is a 3.1 mega pixel with a 10x optical zoom
Ijust happened to be on the porch when the steller jay showed and I couldn't resist.

Have had, thru friday, several nights of 32 and 33 degree temperatures. Have not seen a bird since then except blackbirds and gulls. I guess the juncos have gone back north and I don't know where the jays have gone so I guess I will sit back and wait for the others to arrive from down south. Thanks for all the info and the complements on the pics.

The weather cleared a bit and I got a couple of shots. Still not satisfied with the close up shots but here is one.

Sorry that the pic didn't get thru. Do the photos have to be JPEG ? The first on I sent was a GIF and it obviously did not get thru.

I just looked in FAQ but didn't find anything. I guess so but I've never used anything but JPEG.

There is another one that works too, but can't remember what it is called. I just used jpeg too.

PNG perhaps.

There you go, I think that is it.
I am not too versed on that stuff. Just know enough to squeek by.
