a BLUE JAY

Crescent City, CA

Am working with a game camera which is a 1.3 and I think has the focus set for a little further out since it is meant for bigger game. It senses motion and heat and then takes the photo and as I work with it I think the pics will get better.
I hope anyway.

I am beginning to think you are the only one who looks at my photos. What does the yes/no indicate in the lefthand column.

I'm looking! I love Stellers Jays. All I ever see around here are regular Blue Jays, but I saw a Scrub Jay when we went camping last weekend. I wish we got Steller's.

Hmmm, Yes/No in left hand column. This must be something specific to your Preferences (As you can see by my screen capture attached).

Tell us more about this Game camera!

Crescent City, CA

I live on the west coast in extreme northern calif. My back yard is a couple of hundred feet deep and we have foxes, racoons, deer and other creatures wandering thru the back yard upon occasion. I purchased what is called a game camera in order to take photos of the animals. It is a 1.3 megapixel digital camera with a flash and can be set to take single shots, 2 ot 3 shots in a sequence or short movies. The picture taking is activated by heat sensing or by motion sensing. I feed a lot of birds and this year I decided to try it out taking photos of the birds at the feeders of which I have several. If it successful I will move the camera from feeder to feeder. It would appear to have a fixed focus and I am searching for just the correct distance to mount the camera from the feeder so that all the photos will be well focused. It is supposedly an all weather camera. I hope that is enough info for you. If you wish more just holler.

I've heard of the game cameras.

Looking forward to seeing more of your pics cc!

That's pretty neat. I LOVE those jays, I've said before that I never get tired of seeing that blue.

Crescent City, CA

I think this is an OREGON JUNCO but I am not sure. T he focus is still not where I want it to be for a sharp photo. Sorry for that photo, the proper one is on the next message.

I would love to try something like this on my feeders...I always feel like I'm missing something! I'm curious to see what other birds visit your feeder!

This photo was recorded at my former home before I moved down here to my little house in the desert. I was looking out my upstairs bedroom window and found this pretty mountain bluejay looking back at me from scarcely ten feet away. Recorded him for posterity since my camera was near at hand. After having his picture taken, he flew on down to the feeding ground below that the regular sparrows and other frequent visitors and I had agreed upon for placement of the certified 100% natural wild bird seed that I provided for them.

Very nice Jack, I love the Jays and Junco. Will be interesting to see, what you'll capture with that camera. I always check the wildlife forum here too.

I love how the red and blue combine in that picture!

Jack, I'm jealous of your greenery in the background!

Marlton, NJ

Very nice pic bg!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, that is a wonderful pic with the red and blue.

BTW, I think the Yes/No you were referring to are saying whether or not there are new replies to that thread since you last viewed it.

Here's my Scrub Jay pic. I've posted it before, but since you've got a Jay thread going here, I thought I'd put him here as well.

Yah, I'd like to see them someday!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

I'm sure a LOT of folks are like me - Y'all have already said what we might have said and adding our two cents worth isn't worth the two cents...
With that all said, I have Bird Envy! The Stellars Jay is beautiful!
I am going to have to take a birding vacation out west.

Crescent City, CA

Thought you might like a duo. It has been raining quite a bit and the only birds around for the moment are juncos and the beautiful blue stellars

Nice one!

Along with being sure to consume their fair share of certified 100% natural wild bird seed, the Stellar's Jays in Davis Creek Regional Park (Washoe County Nevada) are also partial to unsalted raw peanuts in the shell, as shown in this photo. Immediately after being recorded with his prize, this bluejay carried it off to his nest for consumption.

Including also this Stellar's Jay photo recorded the same day "just cuz he's purty"

I just got a trail camera for Christmas and used it once or twice out in the woods. It states that it does not work well below freezing, so that counted out most of the months so far. lol

I have taken some nice deer pictures, still looking for coyotes, bear, bobcat etc. I will set it out in a week or so when the weather clears.

I am very interested in your bird pictures. I did not think a trail camera would take bird pictures.
I think you are doing a great job.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Hey BG. Your purty Steller is banded! Cool.

Every time I see those Stellers with a whole peanut it cracks me up. Adel has posted a number of them, cheerfully referring to "Eating Goober Peas."

Barstow, CA(Zone 9a)

Mrs_Ed said "Your purty Stellar is banded!" Yup, they have peeps who "make a living" (or draw celeries and waggies from taxpayers anyway) for tracking the travel habits of my fine feathered friends, just as they do for the peeps who disrupt the lives of humans with similar invasions of privacy and freedom of motion. Anything to provide "employment" for the otherwise unemployable ya know ;), at taxpayer expense "of course". Don't mind me. I'm in the midst of Frauderal tax papers and estimating how much I'm required to send to the squandrous wastrels who do such things to purty birds and grouchy old humans.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

LOL BG.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Spellcheck: Steller's Jay ;-)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

ROTFL Resin. In BGs whole paragraph, you only want to spell check the Stellers. Priceless.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Methinks "Frauderal" tax papers is deliberate ;-))

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

hhmmmm you COULD be onto something Resin!

Barstow, CA(Zone 9a)

In re "Stellar's" vs "Steller's", I'm using the spelling that the original identifier used, can't find it in my dictionary, suspect that Resin (a recognized expert on nomenclature) is probably right, but will need outside verification before I change what I've been using for ages.

In re "Frauderal", dunno any of us Merkans who haven't been forced to be aware of the Frauderal goofermint in Worsingdone District of Corruption whose residents never listen to nor come out to see any of us, other than in rigged and manipulated crowd scenes or in private rooms with crime lords of the areas that they pretend to "represent", nor comply with any of the provisions of our Constitution of the United States of America, and whose hometown has a pair of thirty foot thick iron curtains around it so as to prevent citizen access (which iron curtains I couldn't get through in hours of trying some years ago to attend a business meeting on the outskirts of that "well defended" center of crime and corruption). Yup, as Resin suggested, the spelling of "Frauderal" is entirely deliberate so as to more accurately communicate the reality. As per a long established stare decisis decision of the US Supreme Court, however, I only have to *pay* the taxes, I don't have to like it.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Yep; named after Georg Wilhelm Steller (1709-1746): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georg_Wilhelm_Steller
