Hi! Everyone!!
I am taking a Plant Biology course this semester and I am loving every minute of it. There are four field trips and we have already had two of them. The ilnstructor is a PhD in Botany from UC Davis. Both field trips he has brought The Jepson Manual: Higher Plants of California. I was wondering if anyone else uses this book to identify California Native Plants?
Thanks,
Have a Good Day,
Chuck
The Jepson Manual
I've seen it at Las Pilitas, Chuck. We pulled it out a few times to get details about specific plants. I think the info is online - perhaps through CalFlora?

There's at least some stuff from the Jepson Manual online http://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/interchange/I_treat_indexes.html Since I don't own the book I don't know what the book has that the website doesn't. Personally I've found the Caflora site much more useful for my needs.
Hi Chuck, Its really helpful to have the Jepson Manual to identify in the field. And it is handy for future use. I am a student at UC Davis and have had to use it in many many many of my courses. The info is online for certain but I have found it difficult to use for keying out plants. Also, a new Jepson Manual is scheduled to come out pretty soon (+/- year) since they've restructured the families... Good luck out there. jordan --p.s. its a heavy expensive book so i'd get it only if you need it... but there is a handy dandy carrying case you can get. :o) cheers
Thanks, Jordan!!
Chuck
