Wanna Play a Game??.from "A" to "Z"

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

OK I am bored out of my gourd today.... so lets play a game shall we?Let's start with the letter A, and add an African Violet name for each letter of the alphabet...on 2nd thought I think we will include all gesneriads..streps,sinns,chiritas etc so any gessie name will do .
The rules are:
1) Only one name per letter per post.. then wait until someone else posts, before taking another turn.
2) If you can, make the name one that you are growing yourself...and if you have a pic feel free to post it : ) Even if its not one you grow but just happen to Love..post it anway..
3) Have fun!
I will start:

A -- Annabelle(Optimara)
B--Whos next??

Well...........truth be told here Nance.........I'm doing OK with the streps that are already well rooted. I'm NOT doing very well once I grow them from leaf and try to grow the babies myself.

I AM however, having much better success with baby Chirita. So you win some, you lose some. I THOUGHT I was going to be a good strep grower but I'm finding them much fussier than Chirita so far. If they are nicely rooted, I seem to do OK with them (after a few casualties which still depresses me when I think of it) but as far as growing them from babies up to adults.........not so good. Still trying though. I refuse to give up.

That little Tropical Twister is a happy little bugger though. Doesn't grow much but blooms all the time. Cute little thing. I cherish her Nancy and thank you for sharing her with me.

We still need a "Q" also...

Kim was just jumping in early with her "R"...

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Good catch Critter! I love Plumberry Glow : ) Looks like we still need a Q too yet : o

edited to add: We must have posted that about the same time critter : o

OOOOH Jill.........you have some very pretty AV's! I didn't realize you grew so many AV's. Great growing.

On 2/16 we had our first AV meeting here in Maine (4 at the first meeting and 6 last month) and the ladies shared some of their leaves with me (I didn't have a single AV *lol*). Well..........I am proud to say that as of this morning.........I see TINY TINY little ears that want to pop up.

I'm wondering how I will do growing AV's..........it's SO much fun trying to grow a little bit of everything. It's how you find out what grows easily for you and what doesn't.

Found out that me and episcia aren't going to be good friends after all.........but Kohleria is trying to impress me. She hasn't bloomed yet but grows beautifully for me and even without blooms I enjoy the foliage. You just never know :)

Kim

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

LOL... I'm cheating and posting the ghosts of AVs past as well as present!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Busted!!!! LOL..me too

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Nance...........do you need to try another Chirita maybe? I have some cute little Hisako's which I just removed from mom that are in 1 oz. cups but look very happy :)
Hisako seems to be a pretty vigorous little champ.
I only have an adult plant of Kazu (she has 8 bloom stalks) and find she likes to dry between waterings.
They like lime in their soil or at least an alkaline PH. Could that have been a problem for you?
I ran into MAJOR PH problems trying to grow streps and realized by testing my water that I have EXTREMELY acidic water, coupled with the acid in peat.........I was truly giving them a toxic dose of acid. Now........I boil my water, add 1/4 tsp of lime to it with 1/8 teaspoon of fertilizer and let it sit for a week. BIG, HUGE difference for me :)

It's easy to play this game, because my photo files are automatically listed in alphabetical order!

Surely somebody has a "Q" for us without resorting to First Class again...

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the offer Kim but I still have 3 that I am still trying to coax into bloom. If I ever get these mastered I might take you up on the offer but for now *Believe me..they are much better off with you* where they know how to bloom : )

I sure hope too that someone has something growing that starts with Q..I never thought of how difficult it might get when we got down to the odd letters..LOL..This could get interesting : )

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Does that bring us back to "S" or did we have "S" already?

I don't care, here's 'Smitten Kitten' anyway... this is one I *must* find again for my shelf!
