LOL, the rain makes it look like you have 7 Up in the feeder!!

Nice pic adel! That would be cool if you could locate their nest!

I was able to get some pics of Hummers with their tail flaired but unfortunately they are all Female Rufous. I would like to get some other species for comparison.

I'm digging mine out this weekend. I checked the old maps and see that they've often been around me the first week of April. Honestly that's a month earlier than I thought.

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Last year I had my first one on April 24. Yes, it seems early for me, but thats ok!!! GM

Hope i have more spring and summer attraction.

I was starting to get worried. I didn't see the frazzled one all day yesterday and most of the day today. but when a new hummer showed up this evening our hero was right there chasing him around. I never did get a good look at the new one. I got this one pic of him before the frazzle ran him off again. Not sure what species it is.

I love when the sun catches their throat and the colors come through.

Very pretty shot Adel...I am on pins and needles waiting for ours to show up!

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Going by the map in Sibley, Rufous Hummer doesn't breed in CA, only when you get up into Oregon - so it might not be too surprising if 'Frazzle' does move on.

We may have Detente here. Our frazzled one (with no white on his side) has quit chasing..............

the new Hummer ( that I think is also a male) with white on the side and they are both using the same feeder.

Well detente didn't last long, the frazzled one is back to chasing all the other hummers again.

Frazzled is just much cuter!! That is a great pic!

The hummers seem to like the new feeder in the back of the house, think I'll put up another.

Great in flight shots Adel. I wish my ruby-throats would get here.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Very nice! I have my main feeder up and waiting!

Klamath River, CA

I knew it was too good to last. Now there is a male Rufous in the back that is just as aggressive as the frazzled one.

Does anyone have this problem? Up until about 2 months ago, we had about 5 Costa's hummingbirds in our backyard then they disappeared? We are in the Phoenix area. We noticed one (?) still comes to feed but mostly early morning and late afternoon. Someone suggested since the wildflowers and cactus are blooming in the desert that they have probably moved on temporarily but will be back. We have 5 feeders but our favorite is the window feeder which is at our kitchen window. Here's a photo of one of the males.

Wow he's beautiful!!! Thanks so much for posting the pic!

Yes alot of times they will go for natural foods rather than feeders. If you don't already have them I would look into getting more nectar plants for your zone that attract hummingbirds and hopefully they'll stick around longer for you.

Heres a site that shows some hummer plants for Az.

Wow, sedonasong, he is so gorgeous! I can see why you'd want him to stick around.

Adelbertcat, lovely pics as always!

Thanks, pelletory...we did have Dallas Red lantana last year but I decided to replace them with 3 Hibiscus plants..might have been a bad move...I would see the hummers frolicking amongst the lantana...I have purple African daisies around my fountain but just bought some deep pink wave petunias to replace them with. I also bought some extra 'regular' petunias in different colors to put in some containers for the patio. Maybe the color will attract them. Here's another photo of one of the male Costa's sitting in our Oleander tree.
