I was able to get closer today, unfortunately the lighting was very poor (heavy overcast) total of 6 pics ( edited for spelling. I'm not that bad of a speller just got in a hurry).

How many are you seeing around?
pelle So far I only have two showing up at the feeders.
Well thats great!
Neat pics adel! Super shots!
Thanks for sharing them! We're looking forward to seeing the Hummers come back!
Marilyn
I'm ready for them :>) Bring them on :>)
Great pictures.....
and 6 a different view
Excellent pic for identification! Enables definitive ident as Rufous, not Allen's, from the broad outer tail feathers.
When taking pics of hummers, always try to get a shot of the fanned tail!

Comparison photo..........Western Scrub Jay in the foreground..Steller's Jay in the back ground (This was supposed to be posted in the the daily picks....I'm begining to wonder what my neighbor is burning in his stove that makes me re act this way to the smoke)

Ooooo, they are moving fast!!!
I just checked the map and it looks like they are almost 2 weeks early in our area. I noticed one of the neighbors has her feeder out so I will get mine out in the next few days.
Love that last shot Adel!
Adel, fantastic pics. I would love to see a Rufous someday in person. We only get ruby-throat here. That male one is gorgeous. Thanks for posting these. I've got hummer envy for sure. Becky
I saw my first hummer yesterday! I know they've been in my area for a while, but I hadn't seen one until yesterday. I had just changed the sugar water earlier in the day (I put my feeders out around Valentine's day) and had specifically walked to the room with the window to the feeder to check and sure enough there one was!
Unfortunately I didn't have time to snap a pic. I wasn't even trying to figure out what type he was, I was just happy to see one. I did notice he had a lot of dark on him though.
This has been a great week for birds. First we had our wonderful camping trip with all the birds we saw there, then we came home to find we finally had an owl in our owl house (we put it up around Christmas) and now hummers!
Thats great Peeper! Hope you can get a shot of the owl for us!
Adel, your hummers are fabulous and so are your photos of them! My female ruby-throat won't let any other hummers in the yard. I love her, but I'm jealous of all your males! I've seen a rufous here twice, but unfortunately, they are very rare here. I love your rufous on the tree branch. That's bird-book quality!
Here's my female, sleeping! or at least resting her eyes.
He is just gorgeous, adel! I keep coming back to look at him again and again!
And todays migration map says our hummers are already in Virginia!!!
I am so excited! GM
Elphaba..........I wish we had Ruby-throats here. We have Rufous, Allen's and Anna's mostly Rufous.
Nice pic Elphaba!
LOL, Oh sure just rub it in adel!
These first Hummingbirds are scouts. I hope the main packs don't come up too early.
Scouts?
okay, I admit to not knowing much about hummers. What's the deal with scouts??
What's the deal with scouts??
Brave (or foolhardy!) individuals, which turn up earlier than most of them. If they survive, they get the first choice of best feeding areas and nest sites, but it is very risky, they may run into bad weather and not survive.
Resin
I'm going to put a feeder or 2 out tomorrow.
Look how close they are!!
http://hummingbirds.net/map.html
woweee. that is close. We never see ours until may 1 and even then, none like to come to my feeders until late august!!!
nevermind.
