Those are very pretty!!
We're finally getting spring here!
Love that one. But you already know that :o)
Oh man... you guys have all the bulbs I carefully nurture through the winter in
my greenhouse... outside! Well, I guess I don't have to put tulips in the refridgerator
to get them to bloom here. Balances out.
Tobasco - My dad lives in State College (where Dr. Deno lives). Want me to ask
him to see if Dr. Deno has any of his "books" availalbe? I bought all three when I
visited him.
Sara - will see about collecting some seeds to travel up north... but my timing isn't
always good for those sorts of things. I'm sure things will move faster with purchase
of bulbs. LOL I have a clump of maybe 5 eranthus in bloom and another similar
number of babies. Been at least 3-4yrs now.
I can see lots of stuff poking up after a warm day today. Soon soon I'll have more
to post!
Thanks, Tammy for your offer. I think the books are available on through the Penn State website on Dr. Deno and I can borrow them from our Horticultural Library here.
(FYI I thought I had read that Dr. Deno died last year...)
Marie, you have some exceptional bulb bloom this month! Very pretty flowers! (-:
I have crocus and snowdrops right now. If the rain ever quits by next week I should have my early daffs in bloom! Hurray!
Tabasco my bulbs started blooming in early Feb. Spring starts much earlier here even though it is officially the first day of Spring today. Believe me I will be so envious of you and Tammy in another couple of months. While my plants are barely making it through the furnace blast you all's will be putting on quite the show!!
o sigh the first day of spring and not even one measly smeasly crocus in my garden yet (sob)
what a gorgeous photo, the bird and flower. oh my.
Tobasco- I googled Dr. Deno and couldn't find an obituary. I would think I'd have
heard. He's also in my chapter of NARGS.
thanks lenjo- the little robin is sort of attached to the tiny glass vase- a sweet thing for the first spring flowers that a friend gave me! I love getting vases...
tammy- the little irises are such elegant beings, aren't they- and some of them are almost the first things to show themselves... your pathway looks very pretty and pennsylvanian to me! are you up on the differences between histroides and reticulata ?? danged if i know...
I know which is which 'cause I bought them with those names.
I'm really not much of a botanist. I struggle to remember all the
latin names. LOL
Tammy I am so glad you said that because I can almost never remember the latin names. Geez I am lucky to remember the common name!!
Love all of your blooms Debbie!!
Absolutely! I especially love that LA Iris.
You guys are so far ahead of us here. More crocus are opening.
love the louisiana iris- i'd like to grow them here too- maybe somewhat zone stretched but maybe not... dmj- are you crossing hippeastrum?? I keep looking at weather.com....hoping, wishing- looks like later next week might bring some slightly warmer weather- maybe for you too tammy.
sjms--not crossing Hippeastrums--keeping that species pure selfed, to see if it takes. I've got some other Hippi's out there too that opened a couple of days after that one, just not that special or rare.
that's neat- you must have quite a collection!
I have a lot of bulbs--just not a lot of hippeastrums.
=)
Marie - is that last daf Manly?
Tam
