College Station Roundup

Deer Park, TX(Zone 9a)

Could someone please give me all the details of the roundup? Obviously I have never been to one. How do you take your plants, trade your plants, can you purchase plants, Hotel close to location. Anything you can think of so I can prepare.
Thanks
Honey

Hi, Honey! Round ups are very relaxed and fun. I'm glad you're planning on going! Most people bring their plants in pots, either transplanted from their garden or rooted from cuttings. (And "pots" is a loose term.. I've hauled them there in buckets from the dollar store and old yogurt cups. Whatever works. :-) )

There are no plants for sale. You can list what you have for trade on the trading thread (http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/820103/) and then ask people for things that are on their list. Or you can just show up! You don't HAVE to bring anything to come! Well, bring an empty trunk, cuz you WILL be bringing stuff home, whether you expected to or not. :-) People bring extras of whatever they have, and as you wander around the tables, they will explain to you in detail exactly why you need this plant. And they're usually right! :-)

We usually have a snacky finger-food kind of lunch. Always yummy. :-) I haven't seen a sign up list for it yet, but I may have missed it. (I can't come this spring. Boo hoo!)

There are a number of motels in the area. I stayed at this one 2 years ago, and it was very nice and very close to the park: http://www.qualityinn.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfo?hotel=TX877&sid=cmkw.iqFtmgcaO.7&sarea=19966&sname=College+Station&sstate=TX&scountry=US&sradius=40.23&slat=30.6277&slon=-96.3346&schain=Q&exp=&scity=College+Station&sort=&type=&map=n&month=4&day=11&depart_month=4&depart_day=13&nroom=1&nadult1=1&nchild1=0&nadult2=1&nchild2=0&nadult3=1&nchild3=0&nadult4=1&nchild4=0&nadult5=1&nchild5=0

Some other folks stayed in other motels, and maybe they can give you their recommendations.

I hope that helped.. You will have fun. :-) Everyone is very friendly and love to laugh. :-)

This is a random group shot from last year. It must have been fairly early in the day, because we had a lot more plants in there later on! LOL

Honey, I second everything that Marylyn said. RU's are great! Might be more plants than you've ever seen in one place!

I love to share plants, and most gardeners do. If I have something I can propagate--which is a miracle, since I'm not very good at propagation!--anyone can have it who asks. A lot of things do get spoken for on the trade list beforehand, but I think most people bring extras if they have them. Last fall I brought extras of my plentiful stuff, and they were gone in about 10 minutes. But I still went home with more than I brought, and have no idea how we got it all in my car. LOL! That's what happens when you get a bunch of gardeners together.

There's also tons of food. It also might be the most food you've ever seen in one place. But the main thing is to all meet and have fun together. DG is even more fun when you're talking to people you've met and laughed with. I'm glad you can come. It'll be nice to meet you.

Ditto on everything above. I will be putting up a final headcount thread hopefully tomorrow which will outline all of the details for the roundup.

About what time does it start and wrap-up?

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

In the past we have started between 10 and 11am and went until I think about 3pm.

Thank You all very much!
Can't wait.

If you stay over night Friday, a bunch of folks meet for breakfast Saturday morning. And after things break up at the park, some people go nursery hopping together, or just meet for dinner if they are staying over Saturday night. I think some folks have gone nursery hopping on Sunday morning, too... I have always come back home after the round up on Saturday, so I'm not sure of all of the details. :-)
