I planted these calle or (canne?) lillies last summer. They grew like crazy then deteriorated quickly during the winter. I am completely new to gardening and was wondering what to expect this summer. Somebody told me that these only last one season then you need to replant??? Will these come back to the way they were last summer? The pic on the left was taken today (march 11). The one on the right was taken around august I think.

will these lillies come back
They look like cannas and should be hardy in your area. Did they come with a name, such as 'President' or 'Lucifer'? If they're shorter than last year, perhaps they need to be fed?
Hopefully someone from the warmer climes will chime in here. :)
my cannas are barely breaking the surface due to the repeated cold spells we have had this winter. dont worry, yours look a lot better than mine and should be fine. i give mine some epson salt, slow release fertilizer and plenty of water. last year they got up to 8 ft tall! of course they are one of the taller species.
tracie
mine here were down into the twnties and are barely springing back. I still need to feed them too, plus, they really need a sunnier location, BUT as far as replanting i dont know. Maybe dig only one up and try putting some amended soil (check a differnt forum for that info, or someone may chime in with whats needed) under where it was, then place it back and lightly water it back in. Did you mulchj them over the winter and thats what is making them 'seem' shorter? I know i would forget something like that lol, dont know about you. but some 10-10-10 canna hurt. (sorry, had to go there) mine are only 4-5 footers, by the way so I have lily envy, aggiegrl!
Seriously,Good luck PdaBill, they are Gorgeous!
pdabill,
As with aggie mine are barely breaking the surface. Not only will your cannas come back but I find they are aggressive multipliers and will rapidly dominate the area in which you plant them. Let us know how yours perform as it warms up!
