Hello everyone,

The house where I grew up had morning purple morning glories with red in the middle growing wild on a chain link fence. My father who did not know any better said it was just weeds. Every summer he wacked away at the vine but he did not win the battle against the weed! I live in hot humid south LA and love it and so does the morning glories. I see them everywhere. They take over trees and telephone poles or anything standing in one place too long.

I got involved with seed swapping and did not know what all the fuss over morning glories was about because I know them as weeds. After seeing all these beauties I now know what all the fuss is about. I have collected seed of a few varieties over the winter months and have started some indoors. I am getting excited about planting them out but will wait a few more weeks.

The down side of trading seeds is the lack of information you get on the seeds. It's not like getting a pack of seeds with all the info on it so I am going to have to see how each variety performs. So far I have Blue Silk, Tie Dye Pink, Variegated Purple Feathers, a Pink Feathered and Aomurasaki Jo Hanten Shibori. I even have Ipomoea carnea which I am very excited about.

I am so glad I found a place where I can get some information and hope to share what I have learned too.

Hi Dorothy,

Welcome to the MG forum.. Please post photos of your wild mgs from there.. maybe we can id them..

You will love growing these beauties.

There are a couple of people that are working on a Sticky for the top of this forum to help newbies. Hopefully it is almost ready as the growing season is already here.

Post any questions if you need help, there is always someone around that has an answer to most of the questions.. if not, we will google for help for you..

Hi, dobra--

I'm just getting going with Morning Glories, too, and fellow DG members were kind enough to answer so many beginners questions for me in this thread:

Also, if you look to the right of this page and click on 'tagged pages" and scroll down to where the 'morning glory' tags are noted you will find some other good threads about morning glory culture.

I like this new tag set-up and find it very handy.
