Kaperc's Breezedale

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Mike was asking for photos and things are starting to bloom, so I thought I'd start a thread. Having trouble getting photos of the ceanothus, so I'll have to take some at different times of the day to get the blue to show.

We had some help over the weekend to get some of the weeds out and mulch in. This is the slope behind the house, on the opposite side from the pond (looking very sad now because the pump had to be replaced and hasn't arrived yet!). At the top of the slope is the greenhouse that I hope to make good use of this year.

Edited to add: The big plant in the background is a toyon - we have several around the place and they are gorgeous. The gray one in front is salvia apiana - the doves and rabbits love to sit/sleep under this plant. Someone I spoke with once suggested the scent of the plant might mask the rabbit's smell. The two plants in the foreground on either side of the path are Romneya coulteri - I'll take pictures later when they bloom.

This is looking up the slope from next to the pond. Weird shadows because DH took these early in the morning.

This one is looking up the path to the back of the house. The plants next to the steps (that go to the path around the pond) we just put in - Galvezia speciosa (Island Bush Snapdragon) and Muhlenbergia rigens (deer grass).

Will have to take more pics later - my order from Annie's just arrived!

Actually, we're planning on it. :-) Can't wait until we finish, though, that will be years!

Thanks for sharing all your progress K. How did you come up with breezedale, if I may ask?

Thanks, T. DH is from Yorkshire = dales, and we have a constant ocean breeze, hence Breezedale. I've always liked the idea of naming ones home. I had a Welsh one in mind, but Yorkshiremen are stubborn and besides I had to admit no one would understand it or be able to pronounce it!

Oh, I see. Then Breezedale sounds like a perfect name! Your place is unique and the name gives it a personality of its own.

Mine is beyond breeze to more like wind. So I guess I'd have to call mine "Windymere" or more right now it might be "WEEDYmere". :)

Keep us posted on Breezedale's progress!
