Time to start bluebirding thread number 4

Lots of activity around the nestbox today. After a week of fooling around, Mama is doing some serious nestbuilding.

The house sparrows are looking for a place to nest too, so with every trip, Mama gets an escort.

What's this? Maybe he is trying to look bigger than he is...

Actually, he was just getting ready to take off. This is just half a second later. He is stretching his left wing . Notice his left leg, almost hidden straight behind him, midst his tail feathers..

Day before yesterday we had some tremendous winds. Here Papa tries to stay on the nestbox.

As the wind picked up, he tried to hang on

Just loved the photo's...keeping the lookout, birds are few and far between...could it be it's still blizzard conditions that are putting them off..must be!

Poor little thing, hard to keep their balance in that wind, must be cause they're light as a feather. ;) Lovely shots.

Cousin Dave, Wonderful pictures. We have two birdhouses and just noticed mama taking little pieces of straw into one a few minutes ago. She and Mr. are out on the front lawn. I don't know if they're serious yet. We've had between 6 and 10 birds all winter looking inside, but not going in. This will be our first time, so we are really eager for them to take up residence.

As usual, fantastic pictures! I really enjoy them.

Thanks everyone. This one is not so romantic, but I guess a shot of Papa scratching qualifies as unusual. The lint or thread to the left of him was left by another bird, apparently working on a nest nearby. The bluebird nest is all finished but no eggs yet.

It just occured to me that you might like to see the shots taken right after the "romantic shot." This one would seem to be before, but actually it was after. She didn't take the worm in the shot above.
