Waiting . . .

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Figured a demure little girl needed her own thread amidst all these boys and tomboys. I'm excited to see her . . .

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Funny thats my granddaughter's name

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

That's right. I forgot. :-) I'll be that was a little surprise to you to see that.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Thank you all for your grasiousness. Amber has some little cute things she does. This morning she was standing on the front porch on her hind legs. I reached down and took her paw and she just stood there like we were holding hands. I think she is half merecat. She can jump up on anything. She weighs 7 lbs. She gets up on my chair at the table and puts her feet up and stands there looking around. She is a cutie. I promise pictures of her and us and my garden as soon as I learn. The lady who will teach me gets home this weekend. Her cat is Sammie, a black cat with mutton chop whiskers on the sides of his face. Funny. Patricia

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

So it sounds like she's just moved in and is already right at home. Wonderful!!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I would love to see pictures of Sammie as well, he sounds like a cutie too! Amber sounds absolutely precious!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Willow, you are driving me crazy, I want to see Pics of the new Fur Baby, If I didnt have to go back to work in AM, I would drive over there and show you how to do it. LOL. Love Fur Baby pics I'm just a sucker for them.
This is Tilly says Hello to Amber

Tilly is a pretty cat. Is she considered a calico? I am taking pictures. I'll see if I can get one of Sammie. We got Max tonight while his mom gets a new knee. We will probably have him for a week. He is a white miniature but weighs 40 lbs. We have sat with him all his life, he was Poot's friend. He and Amber get along and our cat Shadow sniffs everyone equally. It take an hour to get out here from Poulsbo. I have a sister in Keyport and one in Suquamish so I'm out there once in a while. You all did wonders on that works party. Don't know how you get everything done. Patricia

Hi Amber!
From my Amber!
Dontcha know it's all about F-O-O-D?

I distorted the picture on purpose - my Amber is such a cartoon, I just had to see her with a big head.

Beautiful face!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Love the pic Katye nice looking girl.
Yes Tilly is a calico my baby, But Miss Sassy rules the roost, the witch in arms per say, she is the second to the oldest, Tilly is the youngest of the clam. My Corky is the oldest (not the dog) Then there is "The Rat' which is Corkys son.

And we'll need pictures of Shadow Cat, too!!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Isn't it funny how cats love the soda and bottled water boxes? Tills picture of Rat and Corky is great. When we get home from Costco we cannot unload the soda and bottled water boxes fast enough to suit Cleo! When she was a kitten she liked to climb in them when they where upside down and run around, so all you would see was the box moving around, wish I would have gotten a picture!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Shadow looks almost a twin to Corky and Rat, she has less orange and more white. She is 14 years old. We've had her all her life. Amber is very happy Max came over last night. They are getting along great. Eating together and all. I think Max was trying to figure out if Poot had shrunk. And Max's Mom is doing well after her knee replacement surgery today. Amber is getting so she is interested in her surrounding. Very comfortabe with everything. Looking out the windows. You can see her thinking. I think she will be very smart.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

It's a treat to have a dog who is so good about letting other animals into her space so quickly. She sounds pretty well adjusted. That's fantastic, Patricia. I'm sure she'll be smart - you might start her with clicker training - it's good for both of you and you can do it pretty quickly. All you have to do is to click and treat (tiny pieces of cheese or something very valuable) for a few minutes several times a day. Once she associates the click with the treat, you can communicate with her easily to do new behaviors (such as going to a mat) or repeat behaviors she already does (such as bowing when she stretches). It might be a fun thing for your DG as it doesn't require too much mobility or any lifting or moving, really.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks, we may try that. My DH has a lot of patience with the dogs. He said last night his hand was down by Amber and she reached both her paws out into his hand and they were that way for about a half hour. She likes holding hands.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

How precious!!!!!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

You had said that she did that before. How sweet. You could totally associate a command with that like "shake hands". She's gonna be a fun girl to work with.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

She helped me put new sheets on the bed tonight. She is almost playing. Sort of a tentative "bite face".

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Amber is now walking on her leash like a champ. She has started to play in the last two days. I trimmed her up today and she stood very still for everything. She is a very smart little girl and learning rapidly. Next is to see if I can clean her teeth. We are all definitely in love with this little pup.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

She sounds too good to be true.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Yes I'm really surprised by her. They are like kids, you can always love one more.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

LOl. Yes, I'm living the truth of that!! But, seriously, she sounds like she was just needing the perfect home with you guys.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Thank you. We are old and sedentary with plenty of time. :->

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Nick says that sounds relaly good. He wants to know if he can come live with you.

Tyler, wants to come and play 'Soccer' LOL
And meet Amber.

They were sleeping so hard I don't think either of them really knew what was happening. :-)

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Chile would like to meet Amber as well. He is anxiously awaiting pix!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Well I do dog sit, but we could just have a playday and they could all play in the courtyard. They are all so cute. Love that shot of Nick.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Nick wants nothing more than me to sleep all day so he can sleep all day tucked in between my legs. Really more of an old cat than a dog anymore. :-)

But he'd love to boss Chile and Tyler around. LOL

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

Unfortunately, Chile is a "breedist." He doesn't seem to get along with anyone except other bloodhounds, but I think it's a bloodhound trait. There were three of us waiting in line for the Vashon-Southworth ferry after training one day and had a bit of a wait so we all got out of our vehicles and brought the dogs out as well. Everyone was getting along marvelously. . .we walked all around then back to the vehicles. Across the pavement someone dared to walk their yellow lab and the "music" began. All three began baying, pulling at the leads, jumping up on their hind legs, and carrying on like we were being attacked! It really was quite comical but very intimidating to those who are unfamiliar with hounds (and really loud, too!)

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I'd love to get a snuggle in with every one of the DG dogs - how I would love to have one . . . well, someday!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I remember somebody remarking in surprise once that he was, "surprised that his dog recognized it when other dogs were of the same breed." Those of us who have had dogs for while know that to be very true. There's nothing like a group of whippets with tails "whipping" back and forth spotting one another and egging eachother on to run . . .

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Yes, when Max was here there was no hesitation with either of them knowing each other right off. I've never thought of the breed thing. Cool

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I was thinking today that it's such a balance to acknowledge and treat them like they are dogs, without discounting their abilities to think, observe and reason.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

katie59, That is where my old cat sleeps. Dog is between our two pillows. They both would rather sleep nose to nose with me.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

That's so wonderful. Just imagine how safe and secure they feel when they're curled up with you. It's such an honor to be part of their colony/pack, IMHO.

Doesn't always make for such a good night's sleep, but . . .
