went to Park Seed yesterday in SC and met with a coupe of other regional folks from DG, redyr and mrsspeedsgarden. It was really a nice place, although it did rain and we didn't get to check out the gardens.
I brought my camera and didn't even think about pictures
we are close in age, sooo many years ahead of us to collect plants...lol
Ha! I had to laugh at your post about all the years to collect plants Tropic -
I'm not THAT old--- but at 55 - I figure I'd better not waste time propagating ---might not live to see the fruits of my labors, eh?
There is a nice (free) garden tour on the 12th --the gardens look beautiful (great website with info on al the flowers (shade and dry ..shade and wet...sunny etc)
I will see if I can find it and post the link.
The site is Ritasgarden.net
Well worth the 'trip' to the site. beautiful beautiful gardens and good info on what grows for those of us in NC and similar zone.
This link may work(below)

Tropicanna- sounds like you had fun. I cant wait to do some garden tours. does anyone want to go to plant delights nursery???? Its awesome. Im sure you all know about it but if not you gotta check out there site!

Any of you guys comin to the swap in Lewisville?
Glad you posted that link about ritasgarden...Went there last year and it was wonderful! I'm planning on doing it again if anyone wants to meet there. Rita Mercer and her DH have done a breathtaking job landscaping:-) The pics on the site can't do it justice!
Bev, I doubt I'll be able to check it out when I'm there Thursday but maybe some other time soon....
and flowrgirl brings up a good point about PDN. I'm actually going Thursday to Plant Delights for a scheduled plant pick-up, but we won't be able to buy anything if we look around. There was a Raleigh Roundup last year where we met at PDN then had a swap at Lake Benson park, it was awesome. PDN is only open to the public during open houses and scheduled appointments. Not sure when the spring one is, but I 'll be more than happy to help with the next RU there...seriously I'm not just making that up, Bev
there visitor hours are mon thru fri 8am to 4:30pm. No onsite shopping until may 1st but you can order and pick up when visiting. I would love to go! I just have no way to get there. The bfs truck is to old and to expensive to drive there and i still dont have a car.Ugghhhhh!
send a dmail if you want to ride on Thursday, I am a smoker (just warning you), I can stop and go outside if I have to because I respect what other people want but...lol
Oh sorry cant go. im going to a friends garden in Greensboro that day. thanks though. no i dont mind smokers:)
well dangit, I thought I'd have someone to ride with..lol
bummer!
FlowerG
Are you saying that you can visit PDN anytime - no appointment --but buy only on certain days?
I understood it to be : To arrange a visit - you have to call - just don't show up.

New question:
Tropic - did you place and order at PDN and then they let you come to pick it up (like no delivery charges?)
Tgg
As of today - I plan on going to Rita's. I hear that you got to get there early to get the stuff she sells. But, I am not sure what time (at this point anyway) that I will be there.
Thats what i was told. I emailed them and they gave me those hours for visitors but said you cant order on site until May but you can pick up your online or phone orders there before then.
rosie, now that you mention it, I was under the same impression and when I called and scheduled my pick-up and asked if we could visit the grounds...the answer was yes but it was kind of a reluctant well, you won't be able to shop and no one will be really available to answer questions. Are you sure you aren't thinking about the Juniper Level Botanic Gardens next door?
yes, I placed an order and can't recall exactly what I did to avoid the shipping charges on the total bill (sorry, it was on the site somewhere), but then I called and scheduled a pick-up...no shipping fees.
Im not sure. I just asked when we can come visit. I would def ask again before going.
I've actually never checked out Juniper Level and I've been to PDN twice now, I need to do that next time but I could sit under the waterfall at PDN forever
I am jealous of you!!!!!
shoot, I'm jealous of Tony Avent...lol
LOL. Im just plain jealous!!!
Y'all are going to be plain green soon, lol!
Ok, Trop. Maybe we can talk about that RU...It was fun, wasn't it?!
the most! It was awesome to meet everyone and the park was beautifu...and the lake...and the excellent food, everyone was so laid back and funny...
I'll bring the water guns again next time
Super soaker...I owe you;-))
Yes, the botanical garden (Juniper Level) may actually have a visitation hour -- but pretty sure not the nursery itself. They used to get downright unpleasant with visitors just showing up. But if you have a group and call ahead and arrange sometimes it will be approved.
missing...Yes, you must get to Rita's early. It was a madhouse last year as far as the plant sale was concerned so I plan to be there before actual opening. Parking is also a big deal, lol! Well worth it, though.
As far as PDN is concerned, we had use of the deck near the waterfall that Trop was talking about. It's right next to Tony's house so we had ample opportunity to chat with him while we were there. Most fun! I think Trop is trying to talk me into doing it again!
Hey everyone,
Flowrgirl - I have been to PDN a bunch of times now, but only on open house days and I do believe it is call ahead... I recommend going on open house days with people around to answer questions and you can buy some of the things you see - I am so bad about buying what I planned then wandering the gardens and finding more... The gardens are amazing and have some of the most unusual plants. They have trial areas where you can see the latest varieties they are trying out, very cool!
Trop - I believe the gardens around PDN are known as Juniper Level gardens, though that was just my understanding... so, if I got that right - the waterfall is in Juniper Level gardens - I hope someone will come along and correct that if I have missed something, I'd hate to have missed Juniper thinking I had seen it.
Oh, I wanna go see Rita's garden, would anyone like to ride? It sounds beautiful... and its not very far from me!
Hope everyone is doing great, spring is almost here!!
lol...now I'm all confused and feeling blonde..thanks..lol
I know that they state the reason they don't like visitors unannounced is because it is their home and their property, Tony was very friendly when I met him in person
nice looking guy too (not my age, but still a nice looking guy)
So what were they telling me? is there something else to see there that we are welcome with out announcing? I still have the email. Hmmmmmmm?
this might help,

Hello Everyone,
I am so disappointed I had planned on going to the plant swap on the 5th but hubby wants to go to a tractor show in Reidsville and I am trying to encourage him to get a hobby of his own. He is so supportive of my love for gardening that I am thrilled he likes tractors and is actually restoring one of his own, so I want to go with him and be supportive.
I know you all live quite a bit from me but I would love to host a plant/seed swap at our home for anyone in NC that would like to come. We live on the NE side of Stokes county about 35 minutes from Greensboro and 50 minutes from Winston Salem. We have 4 acres here and love to welcome new friends to our farm.
Please Dmail me if you are interested and I will pick a date if there is interest.
Hope you all have fun on the 5th and look forward to other opps to meet some of you.
Susan
