Oh, Thank You All so much for all these warm birthday wishes! I can't believe I just now found this thread! That's what I get for not checking out the AV home page more often!

Well, so far "my" day has been wonderful! Weather wise I can't really complain. It's a bit overcast and cloudy but it is 81 degrees out. We got some much needed rain overnight. We are under a Tornado watch today though! UGH! I hate that. There's some nasty weather just north of us! Hopefully everyone will be safe.

I am thinking about heading out and spending some birthday money - on PLANTS! Now, does that surprise you?
Besides money, I got a pretty porcelain Angel statue, a new bird feeder, some little resin birds, a new pair of pajamas, a jar candle that smells awesome (but no fragrance listed on the label) and about 15 cards! It's been a very nice 60th birthday indeed!

Lin, the threatening weather you mentioned even made it to our local weather- please stay safe!

Well, I got to shop for only about an hour ... not a real successful shopping trip. Our weather is horrible ... severe thunderstorms and the Tornado watch has been extended until 7:00 p.m. I did stop at one of our two local nurseries and was really disappointed. They didn't have much at all. Seems like they are going more towards garden decor stuff, and few plants! I did buy some geraniums to replant in a hanging planter I've had for years that I usually plant with geraniums. Can't post a photo right now though. I shut down the desktop machine because of the lightning ... I'm on the laptop ... yeah, like lightning couldn't strike the lap top :) I'm not gonna be on here for long. I might just go take a nap! Don't want the television on during severe weather, don't want to be out playing in the dirt, even on the covered deck! I am a big chicken when it comes to storms ... I am so scared of lightning. When I was younger I would hide in the closet during storms. When I was a working gal, some of my co-workers thought it was kinda funny because I was so jittery during storms! A loud clap of thunder would hit and I would scream! Hated being on the computer too - always thought lightning was gonna strike my computer and come through and hit me! LOL.

Well, I didn't have a real successful shopping day today but, I LOVE to shop and, tomorrow IS another day! :) I'm sure I can put a dent in my wallet tomorrow!

good..........I have been afraid to even go to a nursery lately because I can't say no to myself and I really want to go to nationals in May for the AVSA convention.

Oh, you are going to the AVSA National Convention in April?? Lucky you! Where is it being held?

Well, hubby went and got take out for dinner so I didn't have to cook for my Birthday! We never go out to eat on my actual B'day because Bike Week always falls during my birthday week. 500,000 Motorcycles in this town this week! Every place is so crowded with all the tourists!

edited to say: I hit send before saying I'm going to eat dinner now! LOL.

The AVSA convention is the last part of May, Lin, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I wasn't going to go until I realized our state convention is not until next November in Wichita Falls.
Wichita Falls is a good 7 or 8 hour drive and Tulsa is only about 9 or 10 for a national which will have all the new streps, etc.

I plan just on staying Thursday and Friday nights missing all the good lectures, banquets, etc. I would imagine the salesroom will open Friday morning.....maybe even Thursday evening. You have to stay at the hotel where the convention is going on to make trips back and forth to your room with your plants .......Doesn't that sound like fun!!!!!!!!!!
I hope I don't back out.

Ok, I did a little plant shopping. Didn't find any Gessie's to buy yet, (notice I said "yet") but this is what I got so far:

Diane ... There's an orchid that is Chocolate Scented???!!! Oh, I would love to have one of those, must google it as soon as I get done typing here! LOL.

That Schef in the background was a house plant many years ago and then I decided to plant it in the yard. I planted it right outside the pool enclosure and it has gotten so huge and I should have gotten it out of there long ago. The root system is so immense it has cracked the cement pool deck BIG TIME! There's another one about half that size I planted on the other side of the pool deck right next to our bedroom. Hubby is real concerned about that one damaging the foundation of the house! We are talking about having the pool resurfaced and the entire deck re-done so those trees will come out when that happens! They are too large to dig out by hand so we will have to have someone with a machine come in to do it. I will probably take cuttings to root.

Wow-They make such pretty trees! Shame about the invasiveness of the roots!
And yes there are chocolate scented orchids! Doesn't get much better than that!! And they're pretty too usually sending up multiple spikes- burgandy-ish & white or pink flowers

Lin..............nice plants !!! I will eventually find the mini orchid. Rain said that her Lowe's told her they would order her one, so I am going to inquire at our Lowes.

I stopped by Lowe's yesterday (remember when I said that I was mad at myself for not buying orchids there 3 weeks ago? for 14.95 each? Well, maybe I should say 'Thank you God' for these winds as Lowe's was selling them for 5.00 each and I couldn't resist buying them.

Of course the wind had blown the names off, too............so other than knowing it is a Dendrobium orchid, it will be a surprise
